I got to meet Apollonia in Vegas this weekend! I was in Las Vegas this weekend and went to the Boardwalk to check out Purple Reign the Prince tribute band. after their first set Prince (Jason i think his name is) was hanging out and I introduced myself and showed him my Prince tattoo. He seemed impressed told me that Apollonia was there.. He told me to hang on and he went back in the club and brought her out.. She was very gracious and took a picture with me. Absolutely gorgeous still. I thought she had left and i talked to Jason for a few about Prince (very nice, down to earth guy, you can genuinely tell he loves Prince.).
At the end of his set he was finishing with Purple Rain and he called up someone to the stage, you could tell she didnt want to do it but after a few tries she walks on stage and its Apollonia. SHE SANG PURPLE RAIN with him... it was awesome! If you havent seen them, check out Purple Reign He was great, had the mannerisms down pat. Great voice and moves.. I had a blast!

does she still have her production company in cali? she was kinda moving behind the scenes for years with her production stuff, quietly building up a solid reputation, but i haven't heard anything from her turf in the last year (but i'm also less connected to the socal scene than i used to be)....

Yeah, she's always lived in Cali. She's from Santa Monica. Sidenote: Her AND Carmen lived right next door to each other for awhile in Beverly Hills. This was before Carmen had hooked up with Dave. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Apollonia is an incredibly cool woman. She was very helpful when I was working on a review of the Family Jamm, even supplying several pictures for UPTOWN.
Anyone who has seen her upclose can tell that she has aged very little in 20 years. She looked great at the Family Jamm and really shocked some people with her singing that night. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. Shocked is a good word for it. She looked horrible and dressed embarrassingly, and as I testified in my review (which was un-included in the UPTOWN issue) she let the crowd sing most of the song.

Hey Jess, sorry to hear that you didn't think she was very attractive. The rest of us enjoyed her. If your review was "un-included" (is that even a word? lol) in UPTOWN, that probably means it they were already full. I'm sure it wasn't a slight in any way. There was a pretty good in-depth article that had interviews with many in the bands (Sheila, Fink, Lisa, St. Paul, Jellybean, etc.), backstage reports, and exclusive pictures from the performers. I remember yours was posted on this site. Sorry you didn't enjoy the show more. Will you go if they do it again? I've heard another is planned and I can't wait. Hope all is well with you. Hey Jess, sorry to hear that you didn't think she was very attractive. The rest of us enjoyed her. I've talked with many people both on this site and at the show that agreed her perfomance was embarrasing. Per dropped it at the last minute for some unknown reason... By the way, I loved the show and will definitely go again next time they put it together. Hope all is well with you.
