Brownmark "just like that"

WOW. I still love the pop song "next time". Easily the poppiest off his first album. Easily the strongest single too. Was it a hit?

Even oliver leibar does a cranked up guitar solo.

I also like the clattery "i cant get enough of your love" (with the andre cymone drums) and "she dont care" "Put a smile on your face" is cool aswell.

But honestly "next time" is one of my all time fav tracks ever.

"next time baby, i want u to dance with me". That song has 2 great hooks.

I used to really like "Put A Smile On Your Face". Next Time was cool, too. I remember the video with the Wendy-lookin' female bass player. Mark is extremely talented.

Oliver Leiber did some good work on Paula Abdul's tracks, too.

I liked olivers sound. Even if it was sorta like a bouncier jam and lewis' sound.

Oliver did some good work off obsurity stacy earls album. Who was a paula clone

He does a couple of pop swingers on that one (with common contributor st paul)

The entire 'Just Like That' album has some serious pop hooks. Brownmark really knew how to write a catchy melody back then. The tracks he did for Chico DeBarge around the same time were just as good.

Yeah, that is a cool cut. I like the album as well. I would have liked to have seen Mark do more solo shit. He produced some very cool things with Lakeside. Mark, in my opinion, was Prince's best bassist.

I didn't know Brown Mark had another album besides "Good Feeling". I've got something else to look for now. Wait a minute, thesexofit.....this album doesn't sound like new jack does it? lol

Nah, it ain't newjack. Its more clattery rnb/pop then newjack. Like andre symones stuff with jody watley a bit.

I got his second album, which is closer to newjack then "just like that" I would say.

The BOMB cut was "I used to be so in love"...real nice. BrownM did a 3rd CD I think it's only available on the net though.

I'm surprised you didn't know that because 'Just Like That' was more successful. The single "Next Time" made the R&B top 60 I believe.

Radio stations in my area didn't play any Brown Mark back in the day. They were too busy wearing Whitney Houston out to play anything else. lol I just happened to be browsing one day in the record store and came across "Good Feeling". I had always assumed it was his only album.

It is actually listed as a the group "Cryptic" and the album title is "It's been a while". I have not listend to it for a while, but I remember not being impressed the first time I heard it. I will have to pull it out and listen again.

The members of Cryptic are:

BROWNMARK: Bass and lead vocals
CHASE: Guitar
CHRIS BOONE: Lead and background vocals
SENSWAL: Keyboards, background vocals, rap
CHRIS LAKEY: Drums
J. HUB: Bass, vocals (I think this is the same guy who originally replaced Terry Lewis on bass in the Time).

It was releasedin 2002 but I think it was (not sure if it still is) only avaiable on-line from their web-site.

The web-site is/was www.crypticmusic.com.

As soon as I get a chance I will check if it is still a valid site.

It looks like the cryptic web-site is not longer valid...but this CD is available at amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exe...ce&s=music) for $15.98 new and there are some available used from $2.98.

I looked up Brownmark on the charts and the single "Next Time" went to #48 on the U.S. R&B chart back in 1988. It's Brownmark's only solo appearance on any Billboard chart. That's a better showing than Bobby Z, but not as good as Wendy and Lisa.
