As it turns out The Truth is that Prince is a gay woman who once dated Wendy Melvoin. Wendy is the one who originally taught Prince to play guitar. Even after Prince and Wendy broke up they stayed in a band together and once Wendy began dating Lisa that band became the Revolution.
