PRINCE'S NPG SUPERSTAR DRUMMER *JOHN BLACKWELL JNR.* TO TOUR OZ SEPTEMBER '05!

AllansMusic In association with SABIAN and TAMA PRESENTS
JOHN BLACKWELL JNR.
IN CLINIC AND CONVERSATION

“John Blackwell Jr., the sound, funk and fury behind Prince and the New Power Generation is a spectacle for the eyes and ears. Blackwell’s slamming tight grooves, popping snare and furiously flamboyant drumstick twirling and cross-arm strokes must be seen to be believed.” vater.com

“Blackwell was particularly astonishing – a flurry of twirling drumsticks and thundering rolls that drew impressed cheers whenever he was featured.” chartattack.com

In 1992, John Blackwell Jnr. commenced studies at Berklee College of Music (USA). He then landed the drum chair with legendary funk group, Cameo. In 1988, Blackwell moved to LA and played on Patti LaBelle’s Grammy winning recording: “Live! One Night Only”. In 1999, John met Prince and Sly & the Family Stone’s Bassist, Larry Graham, at a Patti Labelle concert. Blackwell then began to travel to Minneapolis, on a regular basis, to jam with Prince. In May of 2000, John performed in Japan with teen pop sensation, Utada Hikaru, on her Bohemian Summer tour and later that year, officially joined Prince and the New Power Generation. John’s funky grooves can be heard on Prince’s The Rainbow Children, N.E.W.S. and the certified double-platinum album, Musicology. Prince’s sell-out Musicology tour has the distinction of being named the No.1 tour of 2004! In addition, Blackwell has graced the cover of numerous publications including Rhythm (UK), Modern Drummer (USA) and Drumscene (AUS), and has performed at every major worldwide drum festival. John is currently working with megastar rapper, P Diddy, and continues to be the spectacular and mind blowing force behind Prince’s New Power Generation. Blackwell must be seen to be believed.
Xperience the new generation!

Working with diddy, say it aint so. I guess we now know why diddy has been stalking prince recently! I thought it was so he could work with prince but apparantly not unless prince is also working with the bad boy.

the headline on the front page, "Mr. Blackwell to tour Australia" is misleading. Surely, you don't mean the guy that does the annual best/worst dressed lists every year.
