Andre Cymone & Jody Watley

For awhile, Ms. Watley was Da Bomb! Do you ever think she regretted hooking-up with Andre instead of Prince? How different do you think her career could have been if she had?

(Are Andre and Jody still together?)

If she'd hooked up with Prince she would have released a single album on Paisley Park. It would have been fantastic but only sold about 200 copies and we would now be fighting over the out-of-print Japanese CD's on eBay. wink

Jody Watley was wise to hook up with Andre Cymone rather than Prince. Andre gave her a very successful album with that "Minneapolis Sound" that everyone was enjoying. Prince would have given her one of those "artsy/fartsy" albums like he was doing at the time and Jody's album would have flopped just like all his other Paisley Park projects.

(I love it when you say "artsy/fartsy.)

And Vain is right of course. Check this out:

Jody + Andre... great albums...
Jam/Lewis + Janet Jackson AWESOME albums..
Monte Moir + Janet Jackson... "The Pleasure Principle" GREAT Jam!!!
Jam/Lewis + Alexander Oneal AWESOME career (multi gold albums)

Uhm, lets see with prince.
Prince + Time Great albums, (Time perfectly duplicated Prince's every note)
Prince + V6 confused
Prince + A6 confused
Prince + The Family neutral
Prince + Mayte neutral (only because I like her, I don't give it a confused )
Prince + Chaka Khan :disbelief:
Prince + George Clinton barf
Prince + ....
Need I go on?

Still A Thrill is Jody's tightest cut to date.

And you know I love throwing the term around to piss off those that prefer "artsy/fartsy" Prince with orchestras, symphonies, and thangs over the earlier "bad ass" Prince. What can I say....I'm just evil like that. evillol

I'm getting kind of tired of the word "artsy/fartsy". Let me think of a new word.....hmmm....let's see.....how about "Waldo" Prince. evillol

Snap

Everyone makes a good point on the difference between Prince producing vs. Andre or Jam/Lewis.

"Still a Thrill" by Jody thumbs up! my fav as well
And Andre's entire A.C. album, 12-inch remixes, b-side, and everything!

edit: to answer the Q: as far as i know, Andre & Jody have been divorced for quite some time
tho i suppose they still see each other seeing that they share a daughter

misstoi

Jody Watley has a great career. She made power moves with Andre Cymone. I agree with the other post she would have made 1 hit song with Prince. I don't know when she married Andre but she sure made it public when the got a divorce.

Fun Fact:

Jody's daughter Ashley attends NYU (I don't know if she graduated)
Jody is currently on the charts with a 2005 remix of "Looking for a new love". http://jodywatley.net

well andre worked out better because his solo career didn't go so well. He, Jam & Lewis had better productions because that was their focus and strong point. Prince was a solo artist....whether is side projects hit really didn't matter. It's a different approach artist to producer. Dre, Jam & Lewis their productions had to work or they'd be clockin' a 9-5, still playin' weekend gigs at 1st ave and the taste.

The sad thing is that Andre's first two albums received almost no airplay. When Andre got lots of airplay with his third album, "AC", then he didn't make any more albums of his own. This would have been the perfect time for him to continue now that he was starting to get some recognition. However, I still don't think he would have been as successful on his own as he was producing Jody Watley because people would always be comparing him to Prince.
