Prince's love of his life? It seem like most fans think princes love of his life was susanna, why? Why not Mayte. He was with Mayte longer and even married her.Just wondering why people think its susanna, fill me in please! Thanks | |

It's all in the lyrics! Beautiful ones, If I was your girlfriend, Adore, Nothing Compares 2 u, Strange Relationship, Condition of the heart, Forever in my life...wow if you listen to those lyrics there is no doubt that was a man stricken with admiration and love for a woman. He loved Mayte too obviously the lyrics to his songs for her were deeply expressing affection but to me it seems like with Susannah that was a mature, relationship...with Mayte it seemed it was more of girl-you-but-on-a-pedestal-and-mold-into-your-ideal-woman thing. At least that is what I get from reading the lyrics. I'm not saying he didn't love Mayte or anything, obviously he did but with Susannah she was sophisticated, intelligent, lived her own life, had other interests, taught Prince about things, she seemed like a very strong woman and more mature than Mayte. I just feel like Prince really loved her-she challenged his body as well as his mind and I'm not sure he is the most mature man when it comes to romantic relationships when it comes to having a partner who is really their own person and who really brings something to the table all their own. Don't get me wrong I absoultly LOVE Mayte but she was just a sixteen year old kid! I know when I was sixteen I thought I knew what I wanted and thought I was a mature adult but I was so self absorbed but hey that is being a teenager. I'm sure Mayte was not all that different. I'm sure she felt the glow of Prince's affections and tried to play up to what he wanted just as he encoraged her to think like him and value things he did. I'm sure Prince really loved her but how much of the real Mayte did he love and how much of her did he influence her to be and love? I'm not saying he did this intentionaly or knowingly but her whole life was NPG how much could she really bring to the table? She was growing into a woman with her husband there to guide her. With Susannah I think Prince really loved the woman she already was but was also really threatend by it...but that was proably why he was so confused in his lyrics because he really LOVED this woman for who she was...probably prior to that all the women he was with didn't challenge him enough, bored him, annoyed him and in his mind only fun for sex or to sketch his fantasies on. With Susannah she was a class act that demanded respect.and he could learn from. I think he was madly in love with that woman.  | |

will we ever know his true love? probably not....
i think a lot of people think of sus not only because of the songs but also his age when they were together...most associate the love of their life with their early tweens...couple that with the strong relationship prince had with wendy and lisa... and then the fact that he dedicated a song to her years and years later points to him publically admitting he thinks about her (them)...for sucha private and guarded guy thats huge...(and hey, he probably thinks about all of em now and then..but this is the only one who got a public dedication)... so, thats why people think it.... course your gonna get your sus (and or wendy and lisa) bashers coming along to say peoples personal opinions are dellussional in t-minus ten minutes....but thats my rant on this subject..and thats all it is.
