Now their 2nd release had a tight single "The Saga of a Man"

This is one of the strongest albums that was released on the Paisley Park Record label.A funk masterpiece with eight superb tracks.I like it better than The Family's overrated debut album. My favorite songs are "She's Just That Kinda Lady","Stroke","100 MPH","Lonely Girl On Bourbon Street" and "I Guess It's All Over".I think this album could have easily been given to The Time if they had still been together in 1986.

what about the other funky jams like "Stroke" and "She's Just That Kinda Lady"? Or the kickass slow jam "I Guess It's All Over"? Or the scandalous, controverial tracks like "Suzy" and "Strawberry Lover"?

That entire album is great and it has held up over time. It is probably among the best 4 or 5 Paisley Park albums ever made. It rocks and its funky - one of the last real black bands that played real instruments. When was the last time you heard a ass-kicking funk song about meeting a transsexual? Too freaky not to be good.

This album is killing!!! Love it, love it, love it! Great songs, great playing and good production. Saw them live at The Roxy in Hollywood. So so show. They didn't play "Strawberry Lover" which is my fave off of the album. "Player's Ball", "100 M.P.H" and "I Guess It's All Over" are all gems.

100 MPH and Player's Ball are honestly the only songs I can remember of Mazarati's because it's been soooo long since I've heard the actual album, but I think those two songs are *fantastic*, and I remember that I did very much like the entire album.

Ha
I got some video of them playing in a bowling alley, don't remember if its the same one, but sheila was playing with them too

The live stuff I've heard by them was pretty cool, especially when they hit the bassline to Cool in 100 mph and carried it out further than on the record

They played the Palace in hollywood, not the Roxy. I was there too!!

Couldn have been that great. I remember the venue and not the performance.

This was an amazing album. 'Stroke' and 'I Guess It's All Over' are gems.

I got to see the promo videos for 'Player's Ball' and '100 MPH' recently, and I can see how their image must have been detrimental to their success. It's a shame really because this album is one of the best Paisley Park released albums ever.

Damn, where in the hell did u see those?! I would love to have that. Never seen the videos. Brownmark said that P gave them that image. Funny, cuz at The Palace, they weren't dressed like that. They just had a more rock image and not the glam.

I rememeber seeing the videos for "Player's Ball" and "100 MPH" back in the day.Their image and look was very feminine. It probably would have been accepted in the pop/rock world, but because they were funksters,it hurt their chances of becoming really popular.I wonder how they would have done without the flamboyant,Prince-inspired outfits.

I saw both the videos - they took the drag thing TOO far...everyone I watched it with was shocked/appalled then angry.

Maybe they thought they were really women...

Damn! They were pimpin' a drag thang? That shit wasn't going to fly and P knew it. That was another way of him keeping them from blowing up. When he was in the studio with Mark, cutting the album, he was probably thinking "Hmmm, this shit is bangin'. I gotta try to undercut this shit. Then in his Morris voice "I DON'T want ANY compettition! Yeeeeessss!"

I like it better than The Family's overrated debut album.

You got that right!

My favorite songs are "She's Just That Kinda Lady","Stroke","100 MPH","Lonely Girl On Bourbon Street" and "I Guess It's All Over".

Replace "Lonely Girl On Bourbon Street" with "Player's Ball" and you just listed all my favorites from the album. lol

If this album is any indication,Prince really should have utilized the production talents of BrownMark more often. Some of the other albums released on Paisley Park Records could have used Brown's magic touch.
