i didn't think anyone had a problem with larry as a musician. it's that he's a self- righteous twat that bothers most people.

Ok, so I guess I'm one of the few people on the board here old enough to have been into Larry back when he was in his heyday! I dated a guy who loved "The Jam" so much that he recorded an entire cassette (front AND back!) of the song, so that he wouldn't have to rewind it!

I would go see Graham Central Station whenever I could, but rarely did they play the L.A. area.

During the time that Larry was playing with Prince, I was down front during an aftershow at Studio 54 in Las Vegas. Having seen Prince, up close and personal several times, and knowing this would not be the last time I bulldozed over folks to get down front , I spent THE ENTIRE NIGHT staring at Larry, because I didn't know if I would ever have that opportunity again. It was sooooo obvious, that his wife Tina came down front to give me a high five! (Hell, I guess I'm lucky she didn't come down and smack my face with that towel she carries -- "what you doin', starin' at MY man??")

My girlfriend told me later that it was the funniest thing that she had ever seen --- Prince on the right side of the stage, and Larry on the left ---- and my head in the complete opposite direction of everyone in the place!

I agree with wavesofbliss, that most people respect Larry as a musician, but have problems with the "self-righteous" attitude that he subjected others to during a Celebration at Paisley Park years ago. Not cool.....
