Well, I was there at 7 last week and there was already around five or six people in line. My dumb ass decided to grab a slice of pizza in the restaurant next door and when I came out at 7:20 or so, there were 17 people in line...

doors open at 8 pm...

OK, I'm intrigued, sure wish someone who was there would clarify...was she criticizing his more recent writing? If so, that's interesting since other threads claim W&L worked on his new album...

She clarified this statement during the 20th show. Before they did Raspberry Beret, she said they felt there was a period when he was writing incredible lyrics and she rattled off several albums as examples: Around the World in a Day, Parade and Sign O the Times.

Coincidentally, all projects Wendy & Lisa had worked on the most extensively!

I guess I should clarify. The line I was in was for people WITHOUT reservations. If you booked a table than you can pretty much go at anytime.

and its true..but i woulnt say it was because of their involvement..it was because he felt a challenge to one up them...all three admit they had a friendly rivalry going on where they each brought things out of each other...

dare i say this was probably the same rivalry that andre, morris and he shared in the begininng..

which is why everything after lovesexy has been a mixed bag....he proved he could do it alone (sott, to some extent and def. w/ lovesexy)..he felt he had nothing else to prove....and the songs, while always having great hooks and catchy melodies started to get weaker and weaker.....they became less memorable.

I think you're right on the money there.

I agree with you on that SOS.
I would also say that the lyrics on Controversy, 1999 and to a lesser extent, Dirty Mind were also innovative and edgy. I think a lot has to do with youth and the novelty of life and certain experiences. There is a hunger that comes with learning and discovering who we are that doesn’t easily come again once we settle into contentment. Maturity and success might be a trade off to creativity!

I really dig Wendy and Lisa but I’m tired of people making them out to be more than they are/were. They are not responsible for all things brilliant about Prince. He would have been amazing no matter what and if it wasn’t W&L he would have surrounded himself with a couple of others that he could feed off of - delivering to us a different groove that we have yet to imagine. Only problem now is that once you’re an R&B icon no one has the balls to show you something new or suggest anything different.

From 1981 to 1988 Prince’s creativity was unstoppable. That was simply his prime. And W&L, I’m sure, feel both thrilled and blessed to have been along for the ride.

why get upset? or if not upset, why be tired? just because wendy and lisa mean a lot to a huge percentage of prince's fanbase should not take your enjoyment of prince away...you cant take that away fro those people because thats how they feel.....

for me, i wouldnt have become a prince fan if not for wendy and lisa...period!!! because i was their fan before i was a prince fan..and going to these largo shows and seeing all the doyle bramhall fans bopping their heads and singing the w&l lyrics..and seeing the wendy and lisa fans singing the doyle lyrics...its a community...its really awesome....you dont get that "hatred" like you do with (some of) the prince fanbase....

to some, wendy and lisa are equally important to their admiration of prince....to some they are of lesser importance..and to others they are no importance....

but to each person, theres a certain "feeling" that these girls create...and you cant take that away from that person..im not going to deny you how you feel...so dont deny those who appreciate a lil or a lot..

thumbs up!

Not upset. Like I said, I really dig them, they mean a lot to me too. And I'd be more excited to get a fresh album from them than a new Prince record. And other people's views don't take away my enjoyment of anything.

I just think that sometimes people put others on a pedestal for the sake of the pedestal and whatever nostalgial it represents, rather than the actual merit of the individual. W&L are flippin great (trust me, I was a 10 year-old W&L junkie) - but lets be a little objective, people. They would be.

but your asking people to be objective about something that is subjective..... wink

for some, the tracks that wendy and lisa co-wrote w/ prince are what got them into prince..so of course those people are going to say wendy and lisa helped prince become what he is...to others, they got into prince during dirty minds an they hated the contributions that w&l gave...and then to others (a newly discovered breed) only like the lisa contributions....(poor wendy seems to get the bulk of hate.. giggle ).....

and we will never know if prince would have become as popular as he was without wendy and lisa because thats not how reality unfolded.....when can hypothosize all we want..but i can also hypothosize wendy and lisa blowing up if not for trevor horn locking them into a seven year hell (contract) too...i can hypothosize jonathan melvoin not dying and the girls releasing a "pop" album and going on tour with sheryl crow and blowing up.....i could hypothosize the revolution never breaking up.....i can hypothosize mj still being black.....

umm, what was my point? oh yeah....have a good day.. wink

last night i finally got what i was looking for...lisa jamming on her black and blues.....and to top it off..it was a piano duel with a guest player.....

tonight was..i dont know what to say..one of the best experiences of my life hands down..i got to meet soo many wonderful orgers (old and new).....i got to chat with nikka costa, susannah, wendy and doyle's cuttie sister (with her hot boyfriend who was one of the hornplayers in the band.)....

yes, they had horns last night!!! headbang

i totally different show then the first night.....to see lisa just waxing on her keys using her serious face...WOW!! suprisingly wendy was the least vocal and least up front member of the band..

eeks..my flights boarding...more info later..toodles!!

A great show and a lot of fun meeting other Orgers (like terinkydink and sosGemini). The songs were a lot of fun, the horns rocked and it was a total blast.

I could go on and on, but I am running late to work. Can't keep staying out this late.

No word about anything new with Prince, but they did answer some questions... mostly with comical answers.

No CD "news" coming out about any of them in any combination.

im a cross-posting fool...posted this for the folks at doyle's fansite....figured cha all would like to read it too...

ahhh...feet firmly planted on land...

aight..real quick before dinner time....so, thanks to the person who
handed Susannah our Questions....She actually handed it to Wendy on
stage.....

Here's a rundown of the important stuff...

NO ALBUMS ARE CURRENTLY IN THE WORKS!!!

yeah...sucks..but lets have faith..hopefully the energy and
excitement from these shows will hopefully turn into excitement..

and if not? so the f*ck what..this was the point that my friends and
i emphasized with susannah....and wendy. RELEASE THE MUSIC ON THEIR
OWN!!! either via i-tunes or on their own sites...i mentioned how
excited the net is over susannah's Violet tune.....and i
asked, "just release it"....and she said she would...

best questions to come for the "power of three" online community
(doyle's yahoo group, girlbroslandia and prince.org)..Mike Elizando:
Who's the bigger pimp: 50 Cent or Eminem...Did you all know Mike
(bass) co-wrote half the songs off of eminems last album..and wrote
hits for both the rappers? both of their lasts hits were written w/
mike...

at anyrate...soo much more to share with you all..sorry to wet your
appatites as such...but gotta go to dinner now...

The show last night was really awesome. I really liked the small intimate club setting. Great music, finally getting to meet people from here (madhouseman, sosgemini). I think it was the best 30 bucks I have spent in a long time. I must also add how down to earth and nice Wendy was last night. (madhouseman- I stuck around for another 20 minutes or so after you left and Lisa still never came out. Oh well maybe next time, that is if you plan on attending other shows)

Ok, here is my 2 cents on the show.....Fantastic, Jaw droppin, awe inspiring, kick ass music!!!worship Doyle and Sus were on fire.headbang Not as much solo material from them, but what they played was stellar. Abe Laborial,jr is a kick ass drummer with a strong vocal presence. His guitar playing aint half bad.....Mike E, well what can I say..His fingers thump a mean bass!!!! Wendy and Lisa...Top of their game from the get go. Wendy again leading a rousing version of Rasberry Beret. Yes, she tried again to clarify her comments regarding Prince's lyrics. If you ask me, she is entitled to her opinion and doesnt need to keep trying to smooth anything over. Non the less, with the added horn section, they had a fuller sound that just rounded everything out. Fantastic, Funky and Full of Love is the sound that was brought forth on this night. Did I mention all the loving eye contact between Doyle and Lisa? I think Doyle was trying to bring Lisa out a bit...I think I just really enjoyed seeing and hearing the vibe between them all. There is alot of LOVE in that there PACIFICO love....I spoke to Sus and Wendy and according to them...Nothing as far as a cd. There may be a possibility of some tunes hitting the net for downloading. No plans for Violets being released but Sus is hopeful (Lets cross or fingers and whatever else)..AND, the last date in aug may not happen. Wendy stated that her and Lisa just got hit with a ton of work, so we shall see....But that's still a good thing...As Martha would say!
"Keep saying I love you"wave

ps, I thought it was touching to hear Wendy dedicate " I will" to Pops Melvoin
