a lil more fleshed out:
no, i posted it directly to the yahoo group site...but thats okay...let me start over... first, largo is a cool venue..real real intimate...(note to the doyle-head who looked annoyed whenever wendyand lisa performed, uhh..they are the headliners...yet they gave more stage time to doyle and sus (individually) so the look of boredom and the eye rolling wasnt cool...expecially at an intimate venue like largo)...the food? well, the venue was great!! the show? wendy and lisa kicked things off with Staring At The Sun.....next up was Doyle and a new song i wasnt familiar with.....With each album I've gotten the impression that Doyle is still trying to find is "vocal" voice....well, tonight he sounded a lot more subtle and intense.i really liked his performances...susannah took center stage for a couple numbers (most notably a new track that could only come from a Melvoin)..Rockish, bluesy, popish and funk all in one.....Im soo horrible with making up titles to songs I dont know so I will let someone else guess the name of the track... Abe laboriel JR and Susannah straight stole this show from their more famous bandmates...I met Abe way back when Wendy & Lisa performed (w/ sus and doyle) at The Roxy back in 99...he was shy and reserved and ohh ohh soo excited to be playing with the girls..Well, what a difference a few years make...Confident, forcefull on drums with a sense of humor that had everyone laughing....He walked away last night not as a star struck fan but as an idol... It was a night full of new songs from all with the exception of Wendy and Lisa....They stuck to their classic (and an unexpected Revolution Rasberry Beret)..... okay, i am bias...i love love love wendy and lisa, susannah and doyle but this was the best band i have ever heard play and i would be willing to sacrafice all of my individual admiration for each of them if they were to release an album as a band....Each of them has their strenghts (and dare i say weaknesses) that have hindered their chance at a larger success...but, together they compliment themselves and thrive....Doyle's lil flurishes added to wendy and lisa's Reaching One.....Lisa and Susannah backing Abe vocally was hot. Wendy and Doyle's playful dueling guitars....and lisa, susannah and wendy harmonizing....Boy have i missed that...and boy would we all be lucky if Lisa's sister Cole were to join them one night...Im gonna campaign..Because the four of them together is a national treasure... I WANT A FULL ON ALBUM FROM THIS GROUP!!! Did i mention bass player Mike Elizando yet? The guy is awesome..Laid back..looks more suited to be "chillin" at a ballgame then playing with these folks but musically it works....His rythm playing kept the other (more seasoned players) on their toes..... a great night and i cant wait to see the next show...(27th for me).... Spill. something about the quality of lyrics then and now..... and thats all im saying... While I might agree with their comments, I'm not sure that someone who wrote Valley Vista has the right to dog other people's lyrics!

It was cool to read the review you gave up top about the show. I can't wait now I have reservations for the 27th show, its a shared table so I guess lol I will get to meet 2 other new people hopefully they are nice. I have a mp3 recorder and mini disc recorder, I want to record the audio but Not to sure if that is allowed. Did anyone else have cameras or anything like that? Were you able to talk to anyone?

i was a lil under the weather and my date was dead beat tired so we left right after..madartista, did you get to chat with them?
and no recorders are allowed but they dont really search..and wendy pretty much acknowledged that the show was somehow gonna end up on the net... its funny, not until a couple years ago did they know that some of their shows had been circulating amoungst fans.... i just hope if anyone records them that they share and not sell it. No trips for awhile, I swear!!! Good to see you, too! And the whole brigade of L.A. fans. He was incredible. Best drummer I've seen in a long time -- in a total transcendent space for the last song. Very fun to watch. noituloveryxesevolasildnaydnew

Doyle busted out with a couple new songs and ended the show with Chariott...And man if you havent heard this man play, do it...He is one of the best guitarist alive...Dare I say better then Prince? Yes..... I caught the "aewwww" as well, and it cracked up Mike Elizondo. Doyle's guitar was mindblowing. I'm a fan! noituloveryxesevolasildnaydnew

Yes..... Doyle's guitar was mindblowing. I'm a fan! So true! Doyle really tore it up during the final hour of the show. I talked to him after the gig and asked him why he didn't do a monster solo on Wendy and Lisa's "Mother of Pearl." He answered me very honestly, saying it was a right-handed guitar part, and since he plays left-handed, he wasn't comfortable enough with the tune yet. Hopefully this will change as the gigs continue! Other show highlights for me included the surprising cover tunes: "Keep On Running" from Stevie Wonder's 1972 album "Music of My Mind;" "If I'm in Luck I Might Get Picked Up" from Betty Davis' 1973 self-titled debut album; and of course "Raspberry Beret." Unfortunately I can't make it down from SF for the other shows, but LA folks are sooo lucky to get this awesome residency. Props out to the LA Bump Squad for taking full advantage of the opportunity! Spill. something about the quality of lyrics then and now..... and thats all im saying... OK, I'm intrigued, sure wish someone who was there would clarify...was she criticizing his more recent writing? If so, that's interesting since other threads claim W&L worked on his new album... I am going this Wednesday (27th). Looking forward to it.
Is there a dress code and about what time did it get start and get over? This should be alot of fun. Wendy and Lisa are amazing and from what everyone is saying, Doyle sounds like he is going to make a lot of new fans. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. I was there last Wednesday and I will be there again this week!
After the show I went up to Lisa (Wendy was all over the place) as she was coming out of the backstage area and I basically did the geeky fan thing and told her how great the show was and how I was such a big fan (dork) and she gave me a a big smile and reached out for my hand and held it in both of her hands for a bout 30 seconds while she thanked me for coming... And yes the dress code is basically LA style: in other words wear whateva! Oh by the way Susannah rocks. I mean I remember her from the Family Jamm but last Wednesday she tore down the mike. The girl can sing. Why oh why does she not have a solo album out. I mean if frigging Mayte and Carmen Electra can get a record out why can't she. And as for her husband Doyle ; he is one sexy mofo...dayum...and yes, he is incredibly talented. Also, at the beginning of the show when Wendy was explaining why they (Pacifico) were doing the gigs at Largo, (already explained on a post above) saying it had something to do with a documentary about artists who should be more succesful like "Doyle and Eryka Badu." My head, of course, started making up fantasies about maybe Wendy will be on Erykah's next record. Didja hear that Rhonda....
