Jungle Love

I met the producer Oliver Lieber the other day and he spun me out when he mentioned he used to play in Jesse's band back in the mid-80's. He was telling me he bought the Jungle Love desk from Jesse, the same desk Prince recorded 1999 and other groundbreaking cuts on and he used it to record Paula Abdul's first album amongst others. He said back then Jesse was just like Prince, 24/7 on music and working all night. He rates Jesse a finer lead guitarist than Prince but reckons the Purple One is the best rhythm guitarist he has ever heard. He also mentioned he had one of Prince's '83 Telecasters. He said that Jungle Love Studios was nothing mmore than Jesse's living room and when I inquired about what Jesse was up to now he said the last he heard from Jesse was in 2003 when he left a 3 minute guitar solo on Oliver's answering machine followed by "Oliver...Punk!"

Actually I think this guy was on the first Tamara and the Seen album - or at least his face and name is on the back cover. Who cares about his opinion of Prince's guitar skills compared to Jesse's? I think Prince has laid that to rest in the last couple of years - particularly with tht brilliant ass kicking for the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame guitar solo eek

What does the "desk" mean? The control board?

You know I just learned Oliver Lieber is the son of Jerry Lieber, of "Lieber and Stoller" fame (or something like that...famous musical writers..like Kander and Ebb etc.).

He's like best friends with St. Paul.

I remember thinking Paula Abdul's first album sounded TOTALLY Prince influenced, and now weknow it's cuz Oliver and Paul worked on it. I tried telling someone and htye're like "you think everyone is influenced by Prince"..... well they kind of are smile

Jesse is a much better lead guitarist than P. Much more imagination.
