^Agreed...only Blackwell, Sheila, and Michael B are better drummers than Prince. Those may be the only artists in his bands to be superior at their instruments (other than horn players) than Prince. I'll never forget on the Rava DVD hearing Mr. Hayes talk about how demanding it was to be in the band b/c all the musicians knew they were replaceable as Prince could just decide to play their parts himself.

Good question. Well, it's no doubt that u definately have to know how to "slang" on your instrument if you are going to play in P's mob. That's automatic. You don't EVER want to get in a situation where P feels he has to come over to u, take the instrument from u, and SHAME u on it. If u can throwdown on your instrument, hopefully BETTER than P can, P won't try to front u like that. You'll have his respect and his ear. Band members that definately had P's respect:

Andre - multi - instrumentalist
Dez - Had riffs and STYLE that P respected
Mark Brown - Would fuck Prince up in a minute on bass guitar
Jessie - Enough said
Bobby - Probably P's best friend in the band so he gave Bobby a pass
Sheila - Enough said
Matt - He could definately hang with P on keyboards. Not piano, but keyboards. There's a difference.
Lisa - Much respect as a musician. Lisa would play shit that P wouldn't even think of.

I love Prince's guitar playing, but jesse is definetly better
