Z Cult Favorite/Oh Baby - The Time

Off of The Time's first album, I have always dug this cut. The beat drags like a motherfucker, but still... I think P was trying to match the exact tempo that was suited for slow lovemaking. I love the section where P's piano melody doubles his backing vocals. I'm not surprised that this was actually recorded for Prince's second album in 79. He just scrapped his lead vocals and replaced them with Morris's. P kept his backing vocals in tact though, as u can hear. I don't know, I just really like this song. Probably cuz it reminds me of one of the songs that played in the background when I was learning the art of love and disrupting the bed covers with some girl. Aaah, innocence. Anyway, who else digs this song?

Great slow jam. I've always thought it was in the same mood as "Still Waiting" but a little slower and more erotic.

It's an okay song, but I like the other ballad "Girl" much better. That could have been a single.I think Full Force recorded a cover version.

Oh, I used to LOVE "Girl", still do. You will hear something from me about "Girl" today. It's something about "Oh, baby" that I dig as well. And yeah, I agree witcha about "Girl" being a single. It should have been.

Right on. I wondered if it was, but, besides having the album, the only single I had was "Get It Up", which was released first. After that, I just bought the album, and didn't pay any more attention to the singles.

this is a nice song, I especially like the piano.

I also like this song because most of it is right in my vocal range-
it's easy for me to sing.

Yeah, if they had released any long versions of "The Stick" or "Get It Up", or "Cool", then hell yeah, I would have gotten them. But hell, the versions of these songs on the album ARE the long versions!

Amen to this thread.

I've always maintained that 'Oh Baby' is one of Prince's better ballads, period. It ranks right up there with any of the ballads he's ever done. This was back when Morris was singing like his life depended on it. It's just a slow burn. It's the epitome of climax. It just winds and winds and winds, until.....

"Girl" was a double a-side single with "The Stick." Both songs got some airplay on R&B stations.
