What about the solo at the end of "Party Up" during the Controversy tour? Or the complete concert March 8th 1982 at First Avenue, especially "All The Critics Love U In New York"? That song definitely got me wowed by Dez! oh, i'm not saying there's not amazing stuff by dez to be found - i just haven't heard it. there's a lot out there i've yet to hear.

best Prince guitarist is Prince of course
but the sexy and talented Dez Dickerson pulls a close second If you will, so will I

Mike Scott!
He plays unagitated and is able to go through Prince´s whole catologue. Wendy might be pretty creative but isn´t a good guitar player at all.

All of them were great..
Wendy - Played real good and wrote great stuff with Prince and Lisa. Added a lot of color and textures to Prince's music and could get funky when she had to. Also a great acoustic player in the "Joni" school. Miko - He kind of seemed a little "too into" Prince if you know what I mean. At one point he started to look just like him. But he was a good player and played some great jazz licks on the "Charlie Parker" instrumental. Never really heard him rock out though. I also heard Prince was a "little" jealous of Miko because around 1990 the girls were paying a lot of attention to him.(lol)..he backed up Prince well. Levi - A better bass player than a guitarist. He played some cool jazz/blues licks and his solo on the "Sacrfice Of Victor" afterparty show is great. He also got down on the "Sexy MF" solo too...but his bass playing ROCKED. Kat - Good to see a "sista" up there holding it down in Prince's band..but she was kind of buried with the 3 guitar onslaught in the 1998 band. But when I saw her live, during "Do Me Baby", she came out and did a nice intro solo, and then made the guitar say "Do Me Baby". That brought the house down! Her solo stuff is good. Good voice too. Mike - a helluva player who injected a lot of fire in Prince's shows when Prince didn't play. Prince supposedly said he didn't like the way Mike wouldn't let any space get in his playing. I thought he was a great player. ..but the award goes to my man DEZ!! Visually he was cool, and he played some great stuff in those early shows. He was just about as recognizable (hope I spelled that right) as Prince..They had that cool "Mick/Keith" thing going on and Dez had that 80's heavy metal thing/look going on too. I even owned a red and black Hamer for awhile because of Dez...I was really hoping for some good stuff from Dez once he left Prince..I know he toured breifly with Billy Idol back in 85 (opening) but that was it.. Has anyone checked out his solo CD from 1999?

That song definitely got me wowed by Dez! Yep. Look, the first time I saw P in concert was on the Controversy tour in early 82. I watched and studied Dez the whole fucking show. His leads during the show was the most polished. U could tell that Dez had been performing longer than P had. He was just more "pro". He looked the most "pro" out of everyone in P's band, for that matter. He had the best "image" as well. There is no doubt that Dez had a lot to do with P's image AND sound. Although at that time, I really dug P as a lead guitarist. BUT, live, Dez was more "experienced" in his playing. You could see Dez had more control and finess over his playing as where P was somewhat wild during his leads. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Also, I really liked the SOTT/Lovesexy bands so that may have biased my opinion. Don't get me wrong, Brown Mark is extremely talented and right up there with Levi and I have great respect for him. I just liked Levi a little better. "Always blessings, never losses......"

Miko all the way. He was a very good guitarist. Much better than Wendy, Kat, Levi(who was the best bassist) and even DEZ.

Gotta go with Mike Scott on the technical stuff and Miko on the funk. Mike Scott can play a wide range of styles. Miko was also very reliable to be on point with the solos when needed. Wendy....nope. She did however lend a hand in exposing Prince to another side of the musical spectrum, which forever shall be appreciated. Levi? Decent on bass, not quick enough on guitar though.

Kat Dyson? Straight up faker as far as I could tell. Dez....he had a totally unique and messy style, but as his former neighbor I'd have to say he had/has some shining moments.

I would say that it is a tie between Dez,Wendy,Brownmark, and Andre. All of those four in my opinion were on par.

Wendy (to Prince): Doesn't it make you feel like shit? Somehow, I just can't picture Dez saying this to Prince ever! ----- It is more important to be a shit talker than a good musician(LOL). It is unbelivable that Wendy gets the props she does on this board. Once again WTF

Saiyaman said: Okay, Prince has as much band member changes as a football team has line up changes, and Prince is not the kind of person who goes for second best: his musicians have to be top notch. Let's not forget that Prince himself is a killer guitarist so you'd better have it together if you want to be in his band...
So let's talk about the guitarists he's had through the years. Dez Dickerson 1979-1984 The man with the two tone explorer who is seen in all the older videos such as "Controversy", "1999", "Why do you wanna treat me so bad?" and "Little Red Corvette" Dez co-wrote a lot of the songs on the early albums of Prince Wendy Melvoin 1984-1987 Dez Left the Revolution in 1984 and was replaced by Wendy who turned out to be worthy follow up, she co-wrote a lot of the songs on "Purple rain" including the title track Miko Weaver 1985- 1990 Miko Joined the Revolution during the "Around the world in a day" tour as a second guitarist for The revolution, he and Wendy played in tandems. When Wendy Left the Revolution in 1987, Miko took over the role of main guitarplayer on both Sign o' the Times and Lovesexy tours. Levi Seacer 1990-1996 The Year was 1990, Prince disbanded The Revolution and formed the New Power generation. Doing most of the leads on "Grafity Bridge" and "Diamonds and pearls" himself, Prince let Levi do the more Jazzy soulful soloing on tracks like "Sexy MF" and "Money don't matter 2night" But Levi will be best know for playing the solo of the first mentioned track with a playing card in the video. Kat Dyson 1996-1999 Being the ladies man he is, Prince decided to have an all female version of the NPG backing him up for the later half of the nineties. Kat Dyson is credited for playing on "Emancipation" and "Rave un2 the joy fantastic" she didn't join the tour of "Rave" since the ever restless Prince decided to change the line up of his band once more... Mike Scott 1999-current Prince's Current axe wielder. Mike Scott is Prince's tour guitarist, he doesn't feature on any albums yet, taking care of leads if Prince himself isn't in the mood to strap on a guitar during performances. WENDY DID NOT CO-WRITE PURPLE RAIN!! SHE EVEN ADMITS THIS ON THE SPECIAL EDITION DVD. WHY DO WENDY AND LISA STILL GET CREDIT FOR THINGS THEY DID NOT DO??? MIKE SCOTT CAN BE HEARD ON THE NEWPOWERSOUL ALBUM. THERE WAS NEVER AN ALL FEMALE VERSION OF NPG. WHERE THE HELL IS THE PRINCE.ORG FACT CHECKER???? Okay, first let me say this, my FAVORITE Prince guitarist was Dez. I think Mike Scott is a better player and I think Levi comes a close second. He's a monster bassist AND guitarist. Give him his props. No mention of Sonny as a guitarist I see. Hmmm. Maybe nobody knows...

Nah, I'm hip to Sonny. Sonny was P's idol. Patterned himself after Sonny. Andre did too. Then look how P did Sonny. Dogged him out as well. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Why very little mention of Miko Weaver? Does anybody think he was an awesome guitarist also? I heard P was jealous of him; not just because of the way women loved him, but at his gutiar playing also.
