I don't think she disappeared as much as she was doing other shit. Also, it's been long said that Sheila never really liked the limelight and was always cool with playing the back, so maybe she just took advantage of that.

You;re correct on the collapsed lung...she almost died. She was at the point where she had to be rehabilitated and learn to walk and play the drums all over again. That it is a road that is hard to travel upon and I know that it took at least two years for her to do so...Then she returned with the E-Train performimg but still didnt release a record for another couple of years.
