A. Cymone's group:the girls

Back in 84/85 I remember reading an article that Andre had a group called the girls. 3 memembers like Vanity 6 , he did the whole "produce, arranged, played etc. thing. The members were saying that they had real talent and that they could sing rings around Vanity 6 and that they didn't need to come on stage half dressed to get the crowd excited. Their subject matter would do it.

Anywho, a few weeks later I did see 1 copy of the album in a local record store.
I decided to buy the "let's go Crazy" 12' instead. But I always wondered if anybody ever got the joint and how did Andre' really do on it. Interesting thing was that P & Andre' strained relationship was still a hot topic. Especially since this was after "Purple Rain".

So any ol' school collectors have the nerve to get that joint or ever pay them any attention?

[color=blue]I have it. They were better singers than V6, but nowhere near as attractive. I'll give away one track.

I have the 12" single on vinyl. I'm not sure if i knew about the P connection at the time but I must've gotten the vibe from the album cover. I'd be interested to hear the rest of the album..... if there are any "If A Girl Answers" type songs smile

I have it. Some of my favorite tracks are "S-E-S-E-X", "Don't Waste My Time", "Girl Talk", etc.

Here is the tracklisting:

Women And Men
Don't Waste My Time
Someone Shoulda Told Me
What Do I See In You
S-E-S-E-X
Nu Boy
Girl Talk
My Man

You better go back and pick it up because if someone else gets it, you'll probably never see it again.

I liked the ballad "Someone shoulda told me". It get a little repetative, but overall its cool. Nice guitar work on it, too.

Yeah, I bought it when it came out. It wasn't on Vanity or Appolonia 6 albums. The material overall was "throwawayish". That's the up P had on a lot of the other cats that worked with him, was songwriting. Even though P was a thief and if u even acted like u had a musical thought in your mind, he would be there to try to vamp it out. But, P had vision. Of course u had to know how to slang on your instrument to play with P, but to compete with him, u had to have vision.

I bought this album and the 12" when it was released - as I did with everything that was even remotely related to Prince. It is actually almost as good as Andre's own albums. While they probably had better vocal skills than Vanity 6, their album isnt better. That shows you why the Vanity 6 album is still a classic.

THe Girls album is worth having in any real Prince collection - especially if you have the 3 Andre Cymone solo albums.

Only one track, "The Dance Electric". The rest of it was Andre.

I thought that one "Girl" was attractive. Maybe my memery is a bit fuzzy, but I thought one of them looked a little like Joy Bryant and that she tried to make "vanity-esque" faces/looks. Does anybody have a picture of them? Thanks.
