Hmmm...music wise I think Vanity 6 was much better. But I think Apollonia was sexier than Vanity. Vanity is goregous too but Apples had the better body.

Prince gave far more care (and better songs therefore) to Vanity 6 than Apples' version of the group. Apollonia never intended to stay for more than one album and therefore his investment to that project was "limited". Vanity is also a far better vocalist than Apples in my opinion.

V6 was faaaaar better. Apollonia just didnt seem to have the natural sexiness Vanity had. Sure Apples had bigger boobs, but IMO Vanity was still way better looking. Shes gorgeous! It was like Apples tried to hard. Her voice wasnt as good as Vanity's either, which is why V6 had the better songs. My fave V6 songs are Nasty Girl, Wet Dream, Bite the Beat, Drive Me Wild, and If A Girl Answers Dont Hang Up.

Why make me choose? It's like choosing between ice cream and sex!!

Music wise, I feel that Vanity 6 was truly inspired, and Apollonia 6 was an attempt for Prince to replicate the magic. He definately succeed with "Happy Birthday, Mr. Christian" and of course "Sex Shooter", but "Sex Shooter" was no "Nasty Girl". The Apollonia 6 album side B was mainly filler, whereas every track on Vanity 6 is fantastic-- alright "3x2=6" was so-so. Brenda and Susan had much more personality on Vanity 6 as well: the punk-funky "Drive Me Wild" and "Make Up" showcased jail-bait Susan's sexy tease, compared to the watered down "Ooh She She Wa Wa". Brenda in "When a Girl Answers" was hilarious and we really learned to love her and her butch attitude, as opposed to her pained moaning in "Some Kind of Lover" which made us cringe. So I still love my Apples, but I gotta give it Vanity 6.

And if you disagree, I'm gonna take my underwear and stick it in your mouth and you'll love it cuz you got no taste!!

I'm sorry but Apples' voice drives me nuts. There was no vocal talent there whatsoever nor was there much stage charisma. Vanity had a much better stage presence. Lookwise, I won't take away from Apples, she's was a pretty girl, but as far as the whole theme of the group with the sexiness and the lingerie, Vanity had that "come fuck me hither" look that meshed so well with what Prince was trying to go for.

If ya haven't figured it out, my answer is V6 all the way!!! headbang
I'm gonna make you love me...

I definitly like Apollonia 6 better, even though Apollonia has absolutely no range...lol. Mostly because it's in the direction that Prince was going. Plus Sheila E and Wendy & Lisa did alot of the songwriting on it. The first 3 songs are my favorites and I love how they're all sequed together.

Vanity 6 was good, but I can really only listen to Nasty Girl and If A Girl Answers.

So we all know what happened to Vanity, but what happened to Apollonia these days?

I just found a copy of Apollonia 6 on cd at a used shop the other week. They sold it to me for $10....come to find out it's worth far more than that. I really feel like I have a piece of gold.

I had her solo album years ago and it was a bit unbearable.

The Vanity 6 album is excellent.Vanity was a true "nasty girl" and she plays the role perfectly. And the songs are brilliant."Nasty Girl" is still played in clubs regularly...it boasts a funky, hypnotic groove. Some of the other songs were ahead of their time..."Drive Me Wild" and "Make Up" are slick New Wave numbers, while the hilarious "If A Girl Answers (Don't Hang Up)" can almost be considered an early rap number. This album is one of Prince's most interesting productions.

The Apollonia 6 album is flawed in many ways. For one thing,Apollonia doesn't sound the least bit convincing as a "nasty girl".She sounds incredibly silly when she says "All the nasty people sing it!" near the end of "Sex Shooter".Vanity was no great singer either, but she at least put alot of attitude and enthusiam into her performance.Apollonia doesn't.Still, there are a few good songs here. The pulsing "Blue Limousine" is the highlight.Brenda sounds better than ever as she belts out the well-written lyrics."Sex Shooter" is another good song. There's not much else to get excited about.

I like both albums from Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6. If I have to choose I'll say Apollonia 6 I liked more songs off their album than Vanity 6. I liked Vanity solo songs also like 7th Heaven, and all the songs off her Skin on Skin album I think that album is tight.

Vanity 6 (Favorite tracks)
Nasty Girl
Drive Me Wild
He's So Dull
Make up
If A Girl Answers (Don't Hang Up)

Apollonia 6 (Favorite tracks)
Happy Birthday Mr. Christian
Sex Shooter
Blue Limousine
A Million Miles (I love you)
Some Kind Of Lover
Ooo She Wa Wa
In A Spanish Villa

Again, I agree witcha, Dave. I LOVE "In A Spanish Villa". P doing his best Santana, and Happy Birthday, Mr. Christian is very cool. BUT, Vanity 6 is the superior album. You can't fuck with "3x2=6"!

"Happy Birthday Mr.Christian" has it's merits, but those lyrics are insane lol

"it was only the first semester
my body developed quick
compared to the size of my chest then
all the other girls looked sick"

"Oh Mr.Christian...you're a bad boy...Why that's not a pencil! Shame!"

Just recently have I found my love for V-6. I was a fan of couse of Nasty GIrl and Drive me wild. But found the rest of it kinda cheesey. I then got into the song Make Up and that changed everything. I started listening to the album and aside from the closing track, it's quite good.

Another side is the videos. While simplistic, there is some fantastic footage..much of which got copied from many other artists. The Drive Me Wild video in particular...Not only is it extended, but it feels like we are given a glimpse into the crazy world of Prince back in the beginning. And if Susan doesn't do a dead on prince impersonation...I don't know who does. And the shot with her bowing in front of the light...hmmm a purple rain foreshadowing? Aslo the song is practiacally reworked into something that only Prince can do. He's SO DUll, is so much fun every time I watch it...it made me appreciate the song that much more.

You can also tell by the varied boots that P was certainly thinking of another V6 album...with Sex Shooter (sung much better by Vanity), Vibrator, Manic Monday (perhaps...and would have been in the same vain as He's so dull ...but better), Wet Dream Cousin...All of it certainly looked quite promising. Vibrator...that's the song Drag Queens would have killed for.

"Why don't you tie a Matress to your back?" "I'm gonna need it, cuz if I ever see your face, I'm gonna fall and have a heart attack"

Vanity 6 really has some cool songs and cool videos. I can't belive they didn't just expload on MTV and their CD as easy to find in record stores today as Madonna's first CD. They seem tame now but they were way sexy and risque back in the eighties watching one of their videos was like soft core porn when I was a little kid. biggrin
