FUNKY ASS LOOPS - Sonny T. & Mike B.

Did anyone ever get or hear this loop/sample CD created by Sonny Thompson & Michael Bland? I'm just curious. I listened to it in a music store years ago, but never bought it. Just wondering if anyone else heard/has it.

Here's a sample of the grooves on the CD:

Pretty funky if ya ask me!

Wow. I've never heard of this before. I wonder if it's taken from the 7-CD set that never saw the light. $100 bucks seems reasonable for royalty free samples by the "NPG".

From the rhythm section of the artist formally known as 'Prince' and the "New Power Generation", Michael Bland and Sonny Thompson deliver a CD full of grooves that are played live, with an in the pocket groove you won't find on any other sampling CD. You won't believe the variety of sounds used to create these loops. First you get a full mix of each loop, then the drum part, bass, guitar, percussion etc. Tempos & keys are given, and a great many styles are covered. KEYBOARD MAGAZINE said "Seriously HOT! 5 stars for content, 5 for value and 5 for sound quality". SOS, UK said "A CD unlike any other I've reviewed. Funky Ass Loops is dead easy to use and select from, and excellently produced". Please note, this CD will NOT work in PC based systems. Macintosh only.mac biggrin
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Its not from the 7 CD set. This is something they did post-Exodus on their own.

Yeah, I knew about this. Saw it in the 'Time and Space' catalogue but i was more into makin noisy breakbeat stuff so passed on it.

It got loads of really good reviews in 'Sound on Sound' etc and I'll bet it would be a great aid to make some funky stuff.

I would imagine it would sound a little dated now.... Just as noisy breakbeat does!! wink

Actually, I think it's great for a sample CD, considering that most of them are shite. It also highlights how this was easily the best rhythm section that Prince ever had. Furthermore, many of the samples have been used in hits (Tatyana Ali's "Boy You Knock Me Out" springs to mind).
