First thought goes out to Jill Jones. I always really liked Sheila E. too. And nobody mentions Wendy Melvoin either.
If you go for technique, then Ms. Jones. When going for ALL those loverly Prince tunes; then Sheila. Lots of people saying Rosie Gaines. I always thought her voice was seriously limited, but that's okay. |

I love Rosie Gaines' voice. I thought she was a wonderful addition to the NPG. Also Mavis Staples voice really impresses me. | |
