My brushes with P-related fame:

I briefly said "hello" to Mike Scott after the first Dallas Musicology show.

My wife met Prince's guitar at the ONA concert in Houston (got to touch it!)

I exchanged a few e-mails with Tommy Barbarella in the late 90s. I bought Greazy Meal's first album (the band Tommy is in now), found Tommy's e-mail address on the band's site, and just shot him an e-mail out of the blue to say how much I liked the album. To my surprise, he wrote back a few different times and sent me a copy of the band's second album (a remix album based on the first one) for free! Since then, Greazy Meal has released a couple CDs and I've bought 'em both, partly because Tommy was so cool but more so because they make great music.

I met sonny Thompson and Michael B. They had played in Paris. I met them by chance at the bar of the hotel they stayed at. Didn't even know they stayed at that hotel. I was happy to have a conversation with them (with Sonny the most). Really nice.

Well, I had actually worked with Morris and Andre back in 95. I recorded a guitar solo a Morris song called "Skirt". Andre was the engineer since it was recorded at Andre's loft. Morris was a real nice down to earth dude. Has the same exact laugh as he did on The Time's albums and in Purple Rain. I had actually met Andre before at a Mazarati concert in 86. I was in my teens then. When I worked with Andre in 95, he actually remembered me. The year after when Morris was playing at The House of Blues, I went backstage and met Jerome, Jellybean and Monte. At the Purple Rain premier, I met Dez and his wife. At Long Beach Arena on the 1999 tour, I met Jill Jones.

Was that here husband or just a boyfriend? And who is he? He was pretty hot! My boyfriend and I let him sit in one of our seats during Apples' song so he could take pictures of her with his disposable smile

We talked to them after the show and she was SOOO nice!!! She even signed my Purple Rain Tour Program and drew a funny cartoon bubble out of Prince's mouth in one of the pictures... and signed the backstage pass for my Apolonniesque friend who couldnt' make it smile .

To answer the question of he thread, I also talked briefly wtih Susannah who was very cool, a bit with St. Paul and Eric, ohyeah and even Jerome when I went backstage by accidendt after the finale smile.

And y'all probably know all about my meeting Sheila by now.

WHoever he is, I want to know..... smile

I can't find anything on Apples.. they said she's coming out with an album but googling results in nothing. She was so nice.

I think I spoke to Susannah in the photo room. She signed by PR book too on Wendy's page smile. I told her I'd tried to get my hair to have the look (you know over one ear) but it was kinda "falling" due to all the sweat from the finale..... she was like "Yeah I can tell!" in a kind of funny/obnoxious/cool way.... kind of how I"d expect Wendy to act. I never heard her speak before so it was cool.... she kind of reminds me of a friend of mine from what little I interacted with her.

I got to hang out with Wendy, Lisa and Susannah (and their dog) during the evening of the final mix of the "Girl Bros" project. I had just left the employ of the Sound Factory a few months back, but Husky (the 2nd engineer) knew I was a big fan and invited me over to have a listen. I brought some good Scotch because Tchad likes it. As I arrived, K.D. Lang was just tearing off on her motorcycle. I guess they had tried adding some of her vocals to - I think it was "If I Were Brave". Anyway, it didn't seem to work out. Wendy flipped over the Scotch (of course she thought Husky had brought it).

Tchad sat me down at the console in Studio B to listen to the whole record and I insisted on hearing it twice. I truly loved that whole project - one of Tchad's best. After I was done, I joined Wendy, Lisa and Susannah in the lounge to watch a new Radiohead live special that was to air on MTV and I remember Wendy commenting on Thom's eye and both if us looking at each other like "What is wrong with it?" Kinda mean of us - looking back on it. I congratulated them on the finished record and they seemed pleased but burnt out. I remember Wendy pretending to answer journalists' questions over the new record, like - "So what have you been doing since leaving Prince?" and rolling her eyes. They are clearly over the whole Prince days as the only reference to their career. We all said goodnight about an hour later and they rolled off in their truck and that was it. Husky had hinted even back then that they wouldn't be a couple much longer. I didn't believe him.

I want to meet the stars tooo! It is so cool to read of the brushes with these great artists. biggrin

I didn't meet any Prince associated artists -- but I did sit next to Martha Quinn (she used to be on MTV) at the Lovesexy Concert in NYC. It was my second concert ever and to sit with someone who introduced all the Prince vids as I was growing up was so exciting. She was very friendly and kind too. I kept thinking she might have ways of getting us back stage - so I was dizzy with excitement of that. Unfortunately Prince left quickly after the show to go to a secret after party as he usually does.

I have a hobby of meeting stars, in NY there are lots of them buzzing aound.

after a club show in DC in '97 - during which I GOT ON STAGE with the fellas to do that "chili sauce dance sequence" at the end of The Bird
(DEFINITELY 1 OF THE COOLEST MOMENTS OF MY LIFE)
I spoke with Morris &
Jerome (he teased me for a bit)
then I talked with Monte for about 10 minutes.

they were all cool.

then 2 years later at a different MD&T show I took a picture with Jerome.

I am dying to meet Wendy & Lisa.
ESPECIALLY Wendy.
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

He was just playing the star role a bit too hard core for us. At first, he would even talk to us. His guitar player was cool as hell though. This was a long time ago. I was in high school.

Well I'm proud to say that I know Morris Day personally now. He's a cool guy, funny as hell. My girlfriend and I hang out with him everytime he comes into the area. I don't know the rest of the band that well though. They're usually off doing their own thing.
I'm gonna make you love me...

I met Jesse - kind of. A friend's friend hangs out with Jesse, and when they heard I was a big fan, they set up a three way phone call. It totally freaked me out when I heard Jesse say "what's up man!".

This was almost TWO years ago. We talked for about 20 minutes. Jesse was talking about that book "Possesed; The Rise and Fall of Prince", which he had just read, and he was basically saying it was bullshit. He said nothing but good things about Prince -it sounded like whatever "feud" they might have had was behind them.

Jesse said he was working on a new album - and that he was buying the old studio equipment he and the time recorded on, to make his new record. He said he wanted that "old" sound. At that time, he didn't want to tour as and "old school" act (said he HATED that term - old school), but was getting a lot of feedback from fans wanting to hear his old stuff. Two days later, he was announced as a performer for the Family Jamm (everyone knows he didn't show). He lives out in the LA area now, and has been doing a lot of studio work and production for other acts.

I've talked to the guy who set up the call a few times over the last year, and he said Jesse's new stuff was funky and he was even setting up a photo shoot for a new album cover - but, I haven't heard anything since.
