Jesse is perhaps the best guitarist of our times. In my opinion he is better than Hendrix (Hendrix was what, 27 when he died? Jesse is how old now? All those years allow you to learn new sounds and perfect your style).

Jesse is a true artist. If he is reading, please give us an album every couple of years. Love to hear your sound.

I always thought Jesse was a better guitarist than Prince. Prince has yet to equal up to some of the playing on "Bare My Naked Soul". As a soloist, Jesse seems to never run out of ideas, whereas Prince repeats himself a lot on guitar. Even though many on this site talk about how versatile Prince is on guitar, he definately doesn't have a limitless vocabulary within the scope of his versatility. I think Jesse is the one guy that threatened Prince the most at one point in his career because Jesse coulddo everything Prince did, so he didn't hold Prince in high regards like everyone else did. I think Prince was probably a little jealous of Jesse. I know it had to kill him when his idol Sly Stone came out of retirement, did a song with Jesse and disappeared back into the shadows.

Man, shit. I won't even go into all the silly punk shit Prince used to try to do to Jessie while he was in The Time. He was more than a little jealous of Jessie. The reason the 1999 album is so good is because he had to outdo The Time. Even though P wrote MOST of The Time's material, P wouldn't have even recorded something like "Lady Cab Driver" if The Time wasn't around.

My favorite song by Jesse is "She Won't Let Go" from the Revue LP. That song should have been on a Time CD. I jam that on my way to Ohio when I travel. Cardenas on the synth, Jesse is sounding razor sharp on the lyrics, Hubbard on bass, these were some bad cats.

BTW, here is what Mr. Hubbard is doing now:

Lets not forget the Shockadelica incident.

Jesse had an ablum called Shockadelica, Prince wrote a song inspired by the title and asked Jesse to record it for his Shockadelica. Jesse refused (probably for artistic reasons....he wanted it to be a Jesse album not a Prince one) and Prince threaten to release it if Jesse did not use it. Jesse thought he was joking then Prince release it as a b-side. I heard this on some Interview Jesse did with Radioscope years ago. Basically I think Prince was trying to do Jesse in that Shockadelica song. Even the voice is like Jesses.

I just think Jesse is an amazing guitar player. I was going through my video tapes and had to watch a couple of his songs in concert. I am in awe of his guitar playing.

With so many people who appreciate Jesse Johnson, I am surprised he does not release a new album.

Anyone know what he is up to these days?

I use to see him at record conventions in Minneapolis with some guy that I hear was a Prince fan. Not sure what he was looking for.
