Was Sheila's 'Holly Rock' officially released as a single?

i don't think it was...i could be wrong, but i just think it was on the krush groove soundtrack, and then she performed it on her romance 1600 live video.

Yes, it was a single. The video was in heavy rotation on MTV, which was the clip from the home video. There is even an extended version to it where she says "I'm not bullsh*ttin'..Good GOD!" Although this is my least favorite song by Sheila, I do like the 12" version.

You gotta look at this song in context. It was part of a soundtrack and movie where one of the "hits" was the Fat Boys "All you Can Eat".

The movie was one of the first (if not the first) rap movies. It may not be "timeless" but it was a milestone in its way.

That said, I still like it cuz it's almost like a live performance and the timbale work rocks.

The b-side was Toy Box and on the cover she is wearing a miniskirt and one long glove with her hands on her hips. She had that punk wave hairstyle and blue eyeshadow...

Actually, I liked that one. That's when rap as a whole was funky and much less serious. It was all about partying and having fun. biggrin

Well I liked the song. I had to download the song just to get a copy of it. I tried to buy the Krush Groove soundtrack, but I couldn't find a site that was selling the album.

Yeah, me neither. It was her mink coat that she was talking about right?

Co-Fuckin-sign to that! It's very funky...starts out in the cheese but once the chesse warms up, it's a really good song...not to mention that "Bad as the wicked witch" came from it.

It turns into FONDUE if you will....

"don't you wanna be my bitch"
My only complaint is the background voice, you know "Hollyrock....hollyr-o-o-ock." Do ya feel me.

The "Holly Rock" 12" (probably Sheila's cheesiest one with lyrics like "I like blonds... No, I like ALL men!") was only released commercially in several European countries. In Holland, Sheila had a huge hit with the single, where it reached number 8 on the pop charts, probably due to the fact that she made a high profile promotional visit to Holland at the time.

BTW, the "Krush Groove" album version runs a bit longer than the 7" edit.
