One of the things that makes Dr. Fink so memorable is that he had a persona that worked for him (and he could play his ass off). Prince's most recent bands are slick and polished, but lack the theatrical aspect that was a big part of P's earlier bands. For instance, Sammy Hagar may be considered a technically better singer than David Lee Roth, but the DLR era is considered classic Van Halen because Roth's persona was a perfect fit for the band. Charisma, persona -whatever one wants to call it - can go a long way. Morris Day wasn't the best singer, but he was the perfect frontman for The Time.
