What I find "silly" is people assuming that because Dez said that he "did not get" Wendy and Lisa, that he said it because of their sexual orientation. Now THAT is silly.

how so? thats their intepretation.....you state yours and be happy...but to follow it up as if its a contest.....well, thats where the self gratification part comes in...

thats what someone gets for opening their mouth and not being specific enough with their statements..the english language is a powerful thing..pity the man (or woman) who doesnt understand that...

I am not "following up as if it is a contest", I am responding to other people's posts and stating my opinion, which I am entitled to, just the same as anybody else around here. Seems like you're misunderstanding me yourself, since you don't know me from personally.

Computer Blues intro clued me in on Wendy and Lisa. I was not surprised to hear that they were together... and I think especially in those days I was a "bandwagon fan"(as you put it)

*Note* I'm really not trying to be funny by this, but if nobody said this was Dez Dickerson, I would've sworn this was a White guy talking. He didn't sound like a black man not one lick. (Not to get it confused with Black people who talk proper English, don't get it confused) He sounded White.

I haven't heard the tape yet, but I know what you mean. I have been told I sound white on the phone as well. I think it is the inflection on your speech that throws people. Oh and the slang terms you use, like "Hi guys" and "Fer sure" instead of "What's up catt", or "dogg", and "sho your right" and "word!".

I must have missed that memo also.

Yo,yo,yo kno'wha'I'msayin' black people spose ta' talk like errbody in dem videos on MTV... kno'wha'I'msayin'. Big ups to Prince for lettin' Dez roll wit 'im back in da day. rolleyes

I think what you are saying here is much different than what I think of as "sounding black". That sounds like an ignorant person speaking:

" Yo,yo,yo kno'wha'I'msayin' black people spose ta' talk like errbody in dem videos on MTV... kno'wha'I'msayin'. Big ups to Prince for lettin' Dez roll wit 'im back in da day."

I tend to make my assumptions when I hear a voice on the phone based on differences that can be related to physical differences. Now these are tendencies ! Black people particularly Black women tend to have deeper voices, White women's voices tend to be higher "squeaky" voices and Black men generally tend to have deeper voices than White men. I think it is related to Black people tend to be taller and therefore have longer vocal cords. There are times I hear a deep male voice and I am quite surprised when it is a White man. And think of some famous deep voiced men, Barry White, Lou Rawls, that guy from the Temptations (boxed sorry I don't know his name.), they are Black.

this is in response 2 all the wendy and lisa posts.

in my personal opinion wendy and lisa were good 4 him...they added something different 2 his music. i love pre wendy and lisa prince..cuz iits more funky and hard....and i love post wendy and lisa prince cuz its more funky and weird...i don't think that wendy and lisa are goddessess that should be worshipped and all that but i do appreciate what the influence they had on prince. and YES i do think they had an influence on him....do u think around the world in a day would've been what it was without their input..or any of the bands input? do u think it would've been the same if it was just another "prince" record? i don't... i feel the same way about parade...another one of my most favorite p records..and all the outtakes from that time period.i don't think they would've been the same..i also think sign o the times wouldn't have come about without them...and even the rest of the bands input....to me it seems they had much influence on them..and he obviously had much influence on them.

its the "influence" thats the key word....people seem to think thats a bad thing..like wendy and lisa forced their music on him..not at all...prince was/is influenced by many things..in the end, its still his art..his creation.....

i wonder, who influences prince now? IMHO, nobody but his past....hence is music sounded stale.....blame the non-existence of wendy and lisa? heck no....cause prince was sounding fresh up until Gold.....however, everything that followed sounded grounded in something he had done already..(including the truth...however sublime that album is...)

Let me clarify something about "sounding white" on the phone etc. I don't mean to offend anyone... just my opinion and experience that I am speaking on... but a Black person can just about 9/10 times tell a Black person on the phone... even if that person is using what I call their talking-to-the-bill-collector-on-the-phone voice. And don't even front and act like y'all don't know what I am talking about. I am talking about your mom yelling at you "Gdammit, if you don't clean up that room, ima bust ya a new azzhole... {ring} 'hello? yes this is Mrs. Brown.' in a voice that makes you stop crying and turn around to look at your mom because you didn't recognize that voice she is using"

Which is funny because I LMAO when I read how someone doesn't see what the girls added to Prince's music, or anyone they've worked with actually.

Not saying the girls are crap, just overrated; esp when you're speaking on P's music...

Concerning Prince: They definitely added something alright, I just don't find it as enthralling as you. I don't see it as some sort of musical elevation for P, which was the way I construed your initial post. I can be honest though and tell you that Pop Life, Slow Love, and Sometimes It Snows In April are beautiful songs imo, (my favs from P's collaborative W&L era) but they aren't of the same entertainment caliber as P's earlier offerings imo...

Also, since you asked the question "When was the last time P picked up the phone to invite Dez to anything" - When was the last time P picked up the phone to cut a song with W&L? I'd take that praise with a grain of salt, since he doesn't seem to wanna revisit this musical ascension...

Big deal! That doesn't score her any points in head to head guitar play, which most will tend to agree that Dez would've blown Wendy off the stage back then; hence her being a "step down" to some. You using Wendy and Lisa's musical input into certain P songs as a counter arguement sort of askewed the issue of superior guitar playing ability another poster mentioned... And please take notice that not all people were crazy with the W&L influence while thinking about that. Hell, maybe if Dez would've stuck around he probably would've gotten hands on with P's music also. Well never know 'cause he left...remember?

And as I said before; Prince doesn't seem to wanna make new music with W&L, when you know they'd be up to it. All he has to do is call, and they're back making a few songs together...yet he hasn't.:shrug Again, take that praise with a grain of salt.

Also even though I clarified, I think you initially knew the way I was using the word "cut", sense you waited 5+days to concoct a comeback response to that post, all the while posting in other threads in this forum... innocent

Wendy may not be the lead guitarist Dez is but as an all around musician she buries him. She's a very popular session player and if you had any knowledge on her you'd know that. She's played with everyone from Sheryl Crow, MeShell N.,Eric Clapton, Neil Finn, Seal, and Van Hunt. She's made quite a resume for herself since leaving Prince's band so that speaks volumes.

Prince has tried to get Wendy and Lisa to back to produce OLD music, namely the Roadhouse Garden album and that was just like 5 years ago. They declined because they wanted to make NEW music. Plus Prince tried to get them to go to the first Celebration in 2000 but they were already playing live dates with Neil Finn in Australia. He even had Bobby call them to try to talk them out of going and playing the reunion instead.

And what ever you do, don't flatter yourself thinking I had to take 5 days to point out the obvious out to you again. lol I will check back here though to see what other ideas you've stretched into some sort of points regarding this matter.

As far as your 1st paragraph: Spare me Wendy's credentials please. I keep track of the girls believe it or not, and I know who they've worked with. Overall musicianship was never called into question in the first place. People were saying Wendy was a step down on guitar, (you even admit this) plain and simple. You counter arguing guitar playing skill with musical session input is irrelevant.

As for your 2nd paragraph: Thanks for helping me point out that P doesn't wanna do new music with them. Also, I swear I read somewhere where Wendy is quoted saying that Prince turned down a Revolution reunion tour in '00. I thought he invited them to a birthday party in '01, and they declined 'cause they were on the road with Neil at that time?

As for your 3rd paragraph: Why didn't you state the "obvious" 5 days ago then? confused shrug confuse Seemed like your pride finally took over, and you had to get another word in.

You must really like yourself if you think that for 5 days I was thinking about your posts lol

Spare you Wendy's credentials??? Doesn't that have to do with her guitar playing??? Um...yes it does. I now understand that you were imagining some showdown at the crossroads. So my point was completely relevant thanks.

And the second paragraph did nothing more than prove that Prince has wanted to work with them but on his terms alone, not work on new music. But keep in mind that Wendy was quoted in Entertainment Weekly this year as saying that her and Lisa were indeed going to make a new album with Prince soon. I wonder if Dez will get a call to work on it? lol

As far as my pride goes, you would have had to make a good point first which you really haven't. Maybe then I'll bare a Kazama scar, until then bring it nod

Um....weren't we comparing Dez and Wendy as revolutionary guitarist in the first place? Nobody was ever talking about right now or even a few years ago...this goes back to them as members of Prince's band genius.rolleyes Please re-read the post that say Dez superior to Wendy. <---They are drawing comparisons in that regard.

Yeah, I heard Wendy say that a new album with P was coming too, a while ago actually. Then October rolls around when they were showing a gathering of people how they create music on the computer, that when Wendy was asked about that "CD" Prince hadn't even called them. You sure Wendy's not just running off at the mouth? Why hasn't P said anything about it?

Yeah we shouldn't talk about right now because that would REALLY limit your Dez argument wouldn't it? So during his time in Prince's band then, how come Prince used Dez on such a limited basis in the studio then? We're talking a hand full of Time songs, He's So Dull and a guitar solo on Little Red Corvette not much input there.

Wendy doesn't have to run off at the mouth, she's still doing work scoring etc. And since when does Prince make announcements of his every move months ahead of time?? rolleyes

Not gonna touch on why Prince didn't use Dez in the studio more, 'cause I have no idea. I would've liked him to have had a bigger role in that respect. It's all subjective anyway, Prince obviously was taken with the girl's influence for a couple of years...many of his fans weren't.

The new CD? I'll wait for solid details before I entertain that subject...

And you're still on the "input" tip btw, which has been reiterated several times before that input isn't how they were being pitted when people initially drew comparisons. That's just some shit you used to slant the subject of who played better; which ironically you said Dez! lol duh eyepop hah!

It is pretty split on who was taken by the girl's influence. I think it's cool though that artists approach the girl's when they want that Revolution sound (Gwen Stefani, Van Hunt). I've been a fan since 1979 and I've seen all his bands live save for the Andre lineup and while they were all great, nothing in my opinion touches the Revolution.

I didn't slant any shit, you just keep trying to make some sort of point and I guess got lost somewhere in it yourself, I'll leave breadcrumbs next time sorry. I've never disputed that Dez wasn't a great guitar player and that he could solo like Wendy could not, but she could funk and brought a lot more to the table than Dez ever did. And for the record, Wendy is MY favorite guitar player in Prince's band but if you want to talk best Mike Scott is far and away the best guitar player he's ever had. I think I'm over this thread now, the horse has been beaten to death and is now glue so I'm sure our paths will cross again when this subject comes up right on schedule in a week. wave
