My bf who "claims he doens't like Prince" but happens to know all about the related artists including Vanity, Apples, and even the Family...

says that he remembers Cat winning or being on Star Search before hooking up with P and that she created that look of those 2 piece tight, knit outfits that P and all the SOTT crew were wearing around that time..... like on the SOTT album cover in Peach, and even what Sheila is wearing in my avatar.

I never saw her on Star Search though myself.

Cat was indeed on Star Search. She and her partner at the time were on the very first season and they were known simply as Pat and Cat. She would break out and do the "Cat Scat" and everyone would go crazy. During the part in the show where the contestants would go over to Ed McMahan after their performance to chat, he would always ask her to do it. I remember thinking then that she was really a unusual dancer. There was something really raw and wild about her.

They actually were pretty popular on the show. They got 7 perfect scores, made it to the finals but lost however.

When I first found out her actual name after she joined with Prince, I wondered if it were her. I knew she looked like the Cat from Star Search but I thought, that couldn't be her. I actually pondered for a couple of months. Then I saw the U Got the Look video, saw her do the "Cat Scat", and knew that it was indeed her.

I would love to see Cat today but it is so weird that as broad as the internet is, NO ONE can seem to find out where she is and how to get in contact with her. Out of all of Prince's former associates, she was one of the more popular and it is strange, she can't be located at all.

Slightly off-topic, but I agree with you about the strangeness of the lack of info on some people vs. others.

I'm sorry but Cat could not dance. I think Carmen could kill Cat in a dance competition. Remember that ABC special "The Ryde Divyne" back in the 90's? Carmen really showed off her skills. I can't see Cat doing that. On the SOTT tour, all she could do was shake real fast. I can do that.

Cat brought a freak element to Prince's live performances during that era. (LoveSexy).I remember the controversy surrounding the Sign Of The Times 12 inch sleeve.A lot of people thought it was Prince in drag but it was actually Cat.I also liked the chemistry between Cat and Sheila.especially in the video for "Koo Koo".Cat was hot!!Understand?

I think on housequake there were some recent pictures of Apollonia attending some events. So, she sometimes still makes appearances. The last Tv appearance I saw of her I think it was from 2001 or 2002 she was vh1 documentary show I Love The 80s.

Cat had more energy, and was more street as mentioned before, I've always thought Carmen's stint was a bad judgement by P and me because i paid good money for her records and now i'm too embarassed to even put them on ebay!. I don't know why but i didn't think much of Mayte, it always seemed like nobody was ever home and i think many people felt the same, i remember being at a show where she did a stage dive and the front rows just parted like the red sea, now that ain't cool!

I hate to laugh at Mayte expense but she didn't have going on in the dance department as much as Cat. Cat had more umph in her movement and was more polished in my opinion.

See I don't put Apollonia in that category. Over the years Apollonia has been seen. She's been on TV shows, at movie premiers, in a couple of movies, heck she has even been arrested. After Cat left Prince, she disappeared all together, especially in the United States. There hasn't even been any photos taken of her. Compared to Cat, Apollonia has been everywhere.

And she was arrested???? That's news to me! She was so sweet in person, signed my old PR tour book, chatted and stuff. She had a really hot boyfriend too who asked if he could sit in my bf's chair to take photos of her during her performance, which we let him do .

GaryMF, yes unfortunately she was arrested in the early 90's for purchasing crack cocaine from a very young girl (I think she was 11, 12, or 13). When she was arrested, she used the old Hollywood excuse of she was "doing research for a movie role". It is so funny because not long before it happened, I took my first trip to Los Angeles and stopped in this photo shop on a little street off of Hollywood Blvd and they had a ton of pictures of celebrities. There was a studio shot of Apollonia in a plastic bag and I asked the 2 guys that owned the shop whatever happened to her. One of the guys said, "she's strung out in the Hollywood Hills somewhere". I remember being stunned to learn she could possibly be on drugs. Some months later, I read in the local paper (and on some Entertainment show) she had been arrested.

This doesn't mean she is not a nice person, I was just making a point of she has been in the public eye MUCH more than Cat, even when it was negative.
