Prince & SRV

Has SRV ever worked with Prince? confuse

I am claimed that SRV was a huge Prince fan and admired his funk-style, as SRV's band presumably played funk in their early days.... hmm

Is this true? Does anyone have any clue?

I've only read about one meeting between the two. It happened at a club and Stevie Ray wasn't too impressed by Prince's haughtiness. Prince didn't want anyone talking to or looking at him. Stevie replied, "if he's the prince, then I'm the king bee!" or something to that effect. It was chronicled in one of the Stevie Ray Vaughan biographies.

JesseDezz, It's funny you should mention the meeting. I was about to mention it myself. Pretty much, the meeting was the turning point for P and Stevie. Stevie couldn't understand where P was comming from and thought P was being distant.

Indeed, their miscommunication was unfortunate. It's a damn shame that they weren't able to get musical project together before Stevie's untimely dealth. Shit, that would have been one bad ass rockin and funkin project

I remember that Jesse Johnson gave SRV mad props in a Guitar World memorial issue a few months after Stevie Ray's tragic death.

Stevie Ray was a FONKAY blues guitar player. Prince -- especially at the time of their meeting -- was a bluesy funk guitar player.

But, Stevie was downright ferocious and I'm sure Prince would NOT have put himself in a position where he'd be upstaged by SRV. Prince is my boy and all, but he wouldn't have fared well in the kind of pairing most people are hoping would have resulted. shake

And, why is Prince refusing to talk to someone seen as "miscommunication" or the slighted individual "not knowing where Prince was coming from?"

P was acting like a jerk.

Come on now. We all know that for a long time Prince was not a sociable person and was shy. Since opening up Paisley Park over the years and going through shit with Warner Brothers, he has become more open with people than he was back then.
