Be Honest

...did Chance Howard get on your nerves during the Musicology tour?
to be more specific-did you cringe everytime he did one of his
horrid "shout-outs"(you know at the begining of EVERY SONG!!!)
i remember being at the concert with some of my buddies and becoming
embarrassed everytime this Chance dude opened his hole!My friend
was getting pissed off and kept asking why the hell the keyboard player
kept stepping all over Princes vocals?listen to any Musicology show and you
will see what i am talking about.Chance got even worse during 'SoulMan",
a song that should be reserved for county fairs and bar-bands: this song
should be NOWHERE DURING A PRINCE SHOW!!!possibly the lamest segment of
a Prince show i have seen since the Game-Boyz on the Nude Tour,please-
keep the "oldschool" r&b cover tunes out of the set bro, really, really turns young people off and takes all the mystery and danger out of a Prince show.
to sum up my beef-i dont think that Chance Howard fits in the Prince
thingy too well...too oldschool r&b(kinda like LeVert)Prince and LeVert
dont mix.

I think Chance Howard is great. Great vocalist, player, dancer, etc and a very nice person.

I do agree though that the shout outs were a bit much and should cut back on them

Nothing against Chance personally of course,it's just that i have been into
Prince since 1978 and everytime my ears hear Chance on a Prince song or see him
onstage with Prince,it just feels, looks and sounds WRONG to me!
I am sure that Chance is a wonderful person, that doesn't give him the right to
"oldschool" and "R&B" a young brotha to death does it?ole' boy doesn't fit in with my definition of mystery, danger, eroticism or rock-n-roll...all the reasons i got into Prince for in the 1st place.just my opinion.

Prince has got an RnB said. RnB and Funk are really the roots of his music. I don't think RnB element is going to leave his concert anytime soon and I like the fact that he will Soul Man and a Whole Lot of Love in the same show. Who else would do that. The rock n roll pisses off some of the RnB fans and RnB pisses off the rock fans. He just gets a kick out of pushing people buttons.

I'm kind of divided on this one. I think Chance did a good job, but would i rather see a guy in the band do a cover or hear Prince do one of his own songs. I'll take Prince, but i do think its cool that he lets the band memebres do their own thing.

Chance is a cool cat, got to talk with him several times when he was with the Time. Nice and talented guy, but I see your point

Snap

For me, Chance is quite entertaining. I sat very close to the stage and don't remember the shout outs -- maybe you caught him on an off-night? [edit: actually, i heard them but didn't really notice them much] I loved the "Soul Man" bit with his singing and dancing, and Prince had fun with it too. It's really no different than all the other tours where Prince highlights members of his band -- Wendy, Cat, Sheila, Levi, Bonnie, Rosie, Kip, Najee, Mike Scott, Maceo, etc. Giving band members some props and a little room to shine is VERY cool.

cool

edit: Prince has always added quite a few old R&B covers to his sets during tours past -- Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Rolls Royce, etc.

co-sign. i really dug chance as a band member and i liked when he was able to come out from behind the keyboards and perform a little - but all that shouty announcer stuff made me feel like i was getting ready to see KC and the sunshine band at the state fair. i can see what they were going for, but i didn't like it.

Well, I just came back from the State Fair this weekend, and I want to be the first to say that KC and the Sunshine Band tore it up!

Even better, KC was autographing copies of their 12-CD "Git Down Tonight" box set. I bought a bunch of copies, so I guess you know what Uncle OneMo's gonna be stuffing in your stockings next month!

Chance Howard? Pleeez. The poor man's KC!
