I never owned it, but the title track is without a doubt one of her best songs.

In my opinion, "Skin On Skin" is decent. The track listing is:

Under The Influence
Manhunt
Romantic Voyage
Confidential
Animals
Skin On Skin
Gun Shy
Ouch
In The Jungle

My favorite is "Ouch".

On the album cover, Vanity looks very beautiful, classy, glamorous, and elegant. The picture is shot in black and white. Vanity is wearing a white silk evening gown, her hair is pulled back, and her make up is done to perfection. She is sitting in a chair with her legs crossed smoking a cigarette from a long cigarette holder.

My fav on this one is "Romantic Voyage" -- I love the way she uses her voice, and there's a cool key change in there... the whole thing feels great! I also like "Skin on Skin" and maybe "In the Jungle." I remember seeing her perform "Animals" on some British guy's show -- she was a freaky dancer, and those eyes!! Too cool. I used to own the 12" of "Under the Influence" which has some great remixes, but Wild Animal is by far the better album. Skin on Skin has many songs that just plain stink or are very sappy and silly in the least.

I don't have this album but i think her best song(next to Nasty Girl) is a song she did with Morris Day called "Mechanical Emotion". Anyone remember this one?

yeah I dig that one, tracked down the 45 a few years ago. I think both of her albums are decent, but not near as good as the vanity 6 album

I haven't heard all the songs off "Skin on Skin" but what i have heard i've liked. Her voice was much improved by then, but i still think she never topped Samuelle of of the "Wild Animal" album.

Prince was not involved in any of Vanity's albums except for "Vanity 6". When she left, she left for good.

'Skin On Skin' is a vast improvement over her first solo album 'Wild Animal',which sounds like it was hastily written and recorded. On 'Skin On Skin',Vanity is singing better and the lyrics actually make sense this time around. The first single "Under The Influence" is easily her best song as a solo act.Vocally, she seems to be carrying a tune and doesn't resort to all those whiny moans and groans that almost ruined the previous album.

But neither of these albums are as much fun as the Vanity 6 album.

"Mechanical Emotion" boasts a hot Minneapolis groove, but I cringe at some of the lyrics and Vanity's vocals. But Morris on the chorus is great...

You display Mechanical Emotion
Baby,in my own discretion
Oh! You keep me a wreck
Baby,I'm sick of this mess

Notice that he says "a wreck" when we all know he really means "erect" lol

I have to admit..that "Wild Animal" was better. I still liked "Skin on Skin"...but I only listened to a few of the songs in their entirety..."Under the influence" was the only track worth anything to be honest. I remember the video of her in the pirate outfit...the location of the video was eerily familiar to the Steve Perry video for "Oh Sherry"....(I cringe that I even KNOW that information) anyway...

If you want to get a Vanity album...stick with the Vanity 6 album...and Wild Animal....and get the single for Under the Influence!!!

I dunno, I remember Skin On Skin as being a bit more accessible and polished. Wild Animal is funkier, but Vanity's voice and the music was more refined on the follow up. I have the 12" of the second single "Animals" which was a bit of a letdown after the success of "Under The Influence".

Go to: http://www.gemm.com/

Type in "vanity" in the search and you should find many stores selling both LPs for under $10.
