The Time october 28, 2004 review Went and saw the Time at the Greater Gulf State fair in Mobile, AL on Thursday, October 28, 2004. This was the twenty second time I have seen them and the anticipation was almost as high as the first time. Allot of heavy shit has been going on lately, Hurricane Ivan and stuff in my personal life that I'm not going to go into here so this was a great distraction.
My buddy Jason was suppose to go with me, but he had a last minute family emergency so I had to make it a solo trip. I left my home in Pensacola around 5 pm. and got to the fairgrounds shortly after 6 p.m. While waiting in line to get into the fair, the Time were doing a sound check. They played the Walk which was very cool. Paid my $9 and went into the fair. They weren't letting anybody into the area where they were playing so I had to wait a little while, When they let us in I got right up against the stage in my traditional spot in front of Tori's setup. The crowd was looking pretty thin, but right before show time it filled out and I would guess a couple thousand people where there. Remarkably the show started right at its schedule time of 7 p.m.. Here is the setlist with my ever insightful comments 1. Dat Intro- The crowd was really getting hyped. 2. Ho Parade- as usual Tori was on fire. He spotted me right off, pointed at me and smiled 3. Wild and Loose- Morris and Jerome hit the stage and wreck it as always 4. The Stick 5. Fishnet 6. The Oak Tree 7. Jerk Out 8. Get it Up 9. Cool- must have been the first time for alot of the crowd since they weren't down with the hand gestures, but they were really into the show never the less. 10. 777-9311- always a highlight, but I wish they would do that fake pause and go into Tori ripping it up for 5 more minutes like they do sometimes. Jerome went out into the crowd and talked to folks after this. Morris comes back on stage in his pimp coat and goes into 11. Gigolos get lonely too- I called Jason on my cellphone and left this on his voice mail since this is his favorite song by the Time 12. If the kid can't make you come- I really dread it when they do this. Sure they pull the women on stage and Jerome and Morris start talking shit, but it usually means they are going to cut out some of my favorites like Blondie and My Drawers. Tonight's version was one of the better ones. Tori was ripping some serious blues licks and I actually enjoyed it this time 13. Ice Cream Castles- this might be my least favorite time song, but this was an excellent version. At the end of it Jerome pointed at me and said "Rhastus how long were they up here 12-15 minutes" I yelled out 15 and then he told them to get off the stage 14. The Bird- I figured Jerome was going to come and get me, but this time he got 4 small children to get on stage. One was scared of Jerome and shied away from him. Jerome put him on his back and did the Chili Sauce. Hilarious. Morris and the rest of the band leave while Jerome goes into his typical rant. He starts the owe owe owe owe owe, ah ah ah ah ah chant and the band comes back on stage. Freeze goes into the killer bass line and the band closes with 15. Jungle Love- The band tore it up. Tori was climbing in the rafters, invoking visions of Jimi. They absolutely destroyed and left the stage at 8:20 p.m. Tori pointed at me as he left the stage and coolest band in the land was done for the night. After the show, a lady came up to me and wanted to know if I had anything to do with the show. I told her I knew some of the fellas and she wanted me to tell them that they put on a hell of a show. So if any of you guys read this. As always you fellas rocked and the fans loved it | |
