Vanity may be no more, but she is not forgotten. VH-1 included her in its TOP 40 List of Most Awesomely Bad Dirty Songs Ever. Vanity lands at #13 with "Pretty Mess" -- and Prince is mentioned as most likely not liking the song because of the way Vanity sings it. They showed several clips of the euphemistic "pretty mess" video which only reminded me why I used to love her so much -- she's one of the most beautiful females (that I know of) to ever walk this earth!

P.S. No Prince songs made the list -- I guess VH-1 likes all of his dirty songs.

edit: actually Prince's song "Sugar Walls" by Sheena Easton barely made the chart at #40.

Very cool. I saw the video a couple of months ago on VH1 Classic -- I had forgotten how awesomely bad that video is.

i seen the last 10 seconds of that clip while channel-surfin last night...i was like "omg, it's 'pretty mess'!!!" i haven't seen the video in full. never knew there was a video for that monstrosity--i mean, song.

i thought for sure Sex shooter would be on there...

Vocally and lyrically yes, it was pitiful. I honestly used to think Red Fox vocally coached Apollonia at one point 'cause of the "wooooohooooo" croon (howl) when I was a kid. But it's a song that I still play over and over again simply for the beat. Played it today as a matter of fact. That is one of the funkiest beats in existence.

The song is crap, but I love it.

Couldn't Prince find a better lead singer than Apollonia? Damn, she was awful.

And yes, the Sex Shooter & Pretty Mess videos are horrible. But I still have Vanity's debut album on vinyl. What was I thinking?

I think "Sugar Walls" came in at #40. I'm glad "Nasty Girl" didn't make the list. I don't think it did, anyway.

I saw that show. They mentioned Prince a couple times. When they did #1 "Lets get Physical"- Olivia Newton John, they said something like "She's supposed to be innocent, she's Sandy! She can't want to get physical; what happened? Was she hanging out with Prince? Getting like Sheena Easton?"

Pretty Mess and Under the Influence are two of the best songs ever made.
