Poll: Which "Related Artists" do you recommend...? Folks, in a thread of 10 questions about your Prince fascination, one of the Questions is about "Proteges"...
One wonderful young respondent, who was only 3 in 1986, said they had heard none of these "related artists" so couldn't say who she liked best. That prompted me to give my two penneth (that's two cents in US currency) and make some suggestions of "Proteges" and "Related Artists" I think she should seek out. Here's what I said: Ingrid Chavez's album "May 19, 1992". Very atmospheric, dreamy tunes.
Sheila E, especially "The Glamorous Life" and "Romance 1600". She so funky. The Family's only album, which was Pretty Much Prince anyway, but I love Paul Peterson's unpolished vocals, plus the original "Nothing Compares 2 U" is *SO* much better than Sinead O'Connors... and Prince's own for that matter. Jill Jones' self titled album rocks. Stunning voice and sucha tight album. Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 are both excellent and I'd say are "must haves", plus of course I cannot make recommendations without saying that The Time are such a class act. Masters of sexy, long, fun jams... and you'll learn some new dances and also I suggest you pick up anything and everything by Wendy and Lisa. These wonderful ladies were the brains behind the Revolution and I feel that Prince's wagon fell of the rails somewhat when they left. Hear their music and imagine how much better some of Princes more wayward releases would have sounded if they'd stayed on the scene... One word of warning... Never, ever, ever buy Good Question's album... EVER! As I am sure most of you will disagree with my choices, I'd be curious to know who you recommend to someone who hasn't heard any of the circle of artists which orbits Prince?  ~ - ~ ~ - ~ ~ - ~ ~ - ~ Peace, Love and Positivity ~ - ~ ~ - ~ ~ - ~ Tell me, who in the House know about the Quake.com | |

I would skip Taja Sevelle (only tow Prince songs and not even the originals, but re-recorded ones)
I would HIGHLY recommend Madhouse's 8 and Eric Leeds's Times Squared next to that amazing colloboration with Sheila E. you skipped; her self titled album. Both that album and Times Squared show that if you have a REAL artist, the colloboration with Prince can harmoniously blend your own input with Prince's input and create a wonderful album. | |

I was pretty sure I had covered all bases. Yes Madhouse's output is excellent stuff, but I felt I had to draw a line somewhere. Glad to find another Taja Sevelle fan though too. Have you bought her second album, "Tous Of Vanity"? Nothing to do with Prince, but I think it's excellent. Again, I agree and I have pretty much everything he's done and love it all except for "Bare My Naked Soul" which is a bit patchy. Perhaps I could have rephrased it and said "if you had to recommend 6 only" or even... "Which 'Related Artists' do you not rate highly at all?" I kinda read satellite act into this thread; acts for which he contributed songs. Maybe producing and performing.
But related artists... that would indeed have to include Wendy & Lisa. | |

Sheila E. - "The Glamorous Life" album and "The Belle of St. Mark" 12 Inch. Andre Cymone - All of his albums. Jesse Johnson - All of his albums. Morris Day - All the albums except "Guaranteed". Mazarati - The album. Brown Mark - "Good Feeling" album. Tamara and The Seen - The first album. DaKrash - The album. The Girls - The album. Jill Jones - The album and 12 Inch of "Mia Bocca".
