I've wondered myself. No, it really doesn't matter, it's just curiosity. She doesn't seem
"black" to me, whatever that means.....I'm not even sure, and I wrote it. lol mymocha Princology05 said: Is Manuela Black or Hispanic. She looks Hispanic but I could be wrong.

Those are not mutually exclusive descriptions. Hispanic/Latino people can be of either European (i.e. "white") or African (i.e. "black") descent, or of Native American (i.e. from native "indian" tribes") or any combination thereof. And people of African Descent (i.e. "black") may or may not speak Spanish of come from Spanish/Hispanic oriented cultures. For example, if you go to Puerto Rico or Mexico, everyone native there is "Hispanic" but they could look anyway from blond/blue to dark skin/brown eyes. And someone who is "black" (their ancestry dates back to Africa) could be from any country in the world and speak any language. Tha'ts why to a cetain extent these labels and designations are somewhat artifical..... although I also dont' agree with everyone who's like "stop asking! It doesnt' matter!". Just being curious about someone's background does not necessarily equate to racism or prejudice, although unfortunately, the two have been often linked in the past which is really sad.

[Edited 10/6/04 12:21pm] Ya know, if you are tired of answering these posts over and over, and I hear ya, I would get tired too, why don't you just skip it? Let others muse about it, spectulate and whatever else floats their boats. If you feel obligated[b] to tell the truth, set the record straight or whatever it is you are doing, then please, lose the attitude. It really isn't necessary and it makes you look like a snob. thank you!! well she claims to "know" Mani from school so I think she feels entitled to post on every Mani related thread and speak out as an authority, and therefore tell folks what they should or shouldn't say regarding Mani. what I find a bit amusing is how, if she is such close pals with Mani, she doesn't think it to be a bit WEIRD to have in her sig and profile "Prince you are my god : drool : " and make posts about how hot and sexy she thinks Prince is and how she lusts after him. I guess Mani doesn't mind her good friends blatantly lusting after her husband and proclaiming him their 'god'! [Edited 10/11/04 13:55pm] [Edited 10/11/04 13:55pm]

sure you have the right to defend Mani all you want. but also realize that people around here also have the right to discuss your 'good friend' because 1) it's a message board and that's what people DO on message boards; and 2) because she's Prince's wife which makes her a hot topic of discussion, whether you, her or anyone else likes it and whether or not it's "right" to do so. and as tiring as it might be for those who've been here awhile, the same subjects ARE going to keep coming up (such as Mani's ethnicity) and being rehashed because new people are constantly joining this community and asking the same questions. so it might be better for your mental health to either skip the threads about her, or else let what is said just roll off your back and letitgo. of course in the end you can do whatcha want.. ps - considering Prince a musical god is one thing. phrasing it as "Prince you are my god" has a slightly different tone. you know? also the fact that in your profile you also add a "" after that statement MIGHT give the impression you lust after him. Nobody can get away from their roots no matter how hard they try b/c society will remind them(ask Lenny Kravitz or Halle Berry). So, you need to get over it. My ancestry is Irish, Scottish, Native American, and African. Yet, America and the rest of the world classifies me under one particular race b/c of my dominent features(hair texture and skin hue). Go figure. Now what do you have to say about that since you tend to be overly sensitive about the word Black? As for Ms. Kerry, She is White and Portuguise and was raised in South Africa and married a rich German Senator Heinz. If you knew the history of Portugal, we wouldn't be haven't this discussion. You need to do some more research on country origins. [Edited 10/17/04 13:04pm]

By saying "of African or European descent"though implies where your ancestors come from. The "white people" in Africa originally came from Europe. My whole point is that these labels are kinda dumb to begin with because as someone just said, American society tries to force an oversimplified label on you to make it easier for them (i.e. the person doing the labelign) to understand, regardless of what someone's actual background is. I also think you're right about #2 but the truth is probably more complicated; there are probably of Egyptians of all sorts of background.

Mani belongs to the race commonly known as "fine." You'll find many other representatives of the same ethnicity, too numerous to list in totality.
Here are but a few: Lauryn Hill Natalie Merchant Lucy Liu Tracy Chapman Ani Difranco Salma Hayek and your momma Serena Williams Juliette Binoche and the one, the only Ruby Dee. They're all the same race... subversive edit [Edited 10/18/04 20:05pm]

It really kills me how some of you so called liberals(who supposedly don't have a racist bone in their body) have simplistic view of the world as if labels don't exist in the world and only in America. Open your eyes, racism still exist around the world, if you don't believe ask entertainers such as Lenny Kravitz or Halle Berry. I really think that you need to broaden your minds do more research . Once you do this, you will find that labels ( racial clasification) still exist in places such as Brazil, India, Cuba, and South Africa (even after the end of Apartheid).
