If I'm not mistaken, Vanity was originally chosen 4 Purple Rain. (I may be wrong, don't throw dagges at me .)

If you could chose, would U have chosen Vanity over Apollonia?

I love Apples, and I think it worked out perfectly with her. But yes, given the context of the story, I would have preferred to see Vanity.

Vanity was supposed to be in Purple Rain. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I believe it had to do with money. I would've preferred to see her over Apollonia.

Appollonia was fine for the part, no question, but I'm sure Vanity would've done her thing to...but what I wonder is how Jennifer Beals would've fit the part...

I would've preferred Vanity also.

I think Apollonia was the right choose for the part in Purple Rain. She had a style to her that made it right for her and the part. I think Vanity was a little rough around the edges for the role. Apollonia was sweet for thr part like it should have been.

Vanity would have been better because the movie was hyped to be a story based on his life. Jennifer Beals would've added a more mysterious element to the character which I think would've been kind of cool to see. But definitely Vanity.

Oh, and yes the role WAS intended for Vanity but, she turned it down. I believe she did regret the decision later. I remember seeing her on Video Soul shortly after the movie was released saying she hadn't watched it as of that time because she was afraid.

I disagree. The role was written for Vanity and the movie originally was to be a LOT darker. A lot of scenes were deleted because of the tone and the sex, which were tailor made for Vanity and Prince. They were a dark couple and that was intended for the movie. The rape scene and the barnyard scene might have stayed in the film if Vanity was in it. Apollonia's vibe changed so much of what was already written, that with her, it became a whole "different" movie.

I remember Prince & Vanity -- they were IT!! and it was such a sad thing they didn't stay together for this movie -- it really was intended for Vanity, Prince's lover during the time the script was put together. Apollonia had the look, but not even half the chemistry that Prince & Vanity shared. I would've loved to have seen that on screen.

Her acting also left a lot to be desired. When the non-actors of the film can do a better job at acting than you (and you were brought on as the "actress")....something's wrong...

I thought Vanity was kicked out of the movie and also Prince's inner circle at that time because of her drug use.

I don't think thats true. I read In "Possessed: The Rise and Fall of Prince" that Morris Day @ that time was also very coked out. He and Vanity did drugs together yet, they kept him in the film. As a matter of fact the book mentioned that some days they would have to go get Morris and physically bring him to the set he'd be so high.

Watch the movie when Morris & Jerome are walking down the street talking and Morris says "that Apollonia babe". If you look closely, you can see it was dubbed from where he originally said "Vanity"
