Because he is the drummer from the dark years. The most unispired Prince period. It is not his fault, it is PrinceĀ“s fault. HE was not so bad as people paint him to be.

Kirk was NOT a bad drummer. Just not as great as those who preceded or superceded him! nod

Prince would never employ a total incompetant and that's the truth!!

Two reasons...

1) He was a serviceable drummer; not terrible, but way out of his laeague when compared to Prince history

2) He sterilized Emancipation... Live drums, or a more organic percussion approach would have done wonders for it, and the releases that followed it.

Seems like a good enough guy - just part of a bad period in Prince's career.

And following close behind him Bobby Z. The difference is that Bobby Z was around during his rise to fame and popularity.

Kirky J is FINE AS HELL!!! ky love drool

But that production on Emancipation was very dull and uninspired, man the live drumming wudda brought out the songs alot more, except with a few like Face Down, The Human Body, New World, Slave, In This Bed eye Scream..

But alot others needed it, "Friend Mother Sister lover Wife" "Emancipation" "Jam Of The Year" "Joint 2 Joint"
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Kirky J is 'technically' a good drummer, but this doesn't mean it's good to listen to.

The problem is the man ain't got no soul.... that's why many tracks sound so flat and bland. Just watchin him play on the Rave footage... bored

papabeat

Why? Because in "The War," (politics aside, it's one of my favorite Prince tracks - daring, unusual, and musical), Prince unleashed the most ferocious guitar solo, and brought that to an amazing crescendo, and what does Kirky do? He fell apart - he loses the beat right at the end of the solo, and turned it into a confusing mess before finding the beat again and getting back on track. Sure, much of the song sounds like a train about to run off the rails, but for it to actually happen was inexcusable. That said, I saw many Paisley shows where he kept the beat and did fantastic; but this one time he was a mess.

Beacause Doug E Fresh beat him hands down at a drum contest using only his mouth and a microphone.

R U refering to the Beautiful strange concert video? (i think thats what it's called!). If so then i have to agree. Doug E kicks his ass. Kirk has trouble keeping up with the human beat box and providing any inspired drum runs.
You do as I say
