Andre' Cymone, because he and Prince grew up like brothers, and Andre' Cymone was instrumental in the meteoric rise of one of my all-time favorites: the lovely Ms. Jody Watley (You're Some Kind of Lover.....Turn Me On, Turn Me out.....)

They are both really cool musicians and both multi-instrumentalists,however,I think Brwonmark was better suited for Prince's band. They were both ambitious, but Mark was more comfortable than Andre playing the shadow role.Prince didn'tw ant someone on equal ground with him in his band.Andre was gonna have to leave at some point anyway.Being a solo artist was a goal that was calling him like crack calls Whitney.Plus,Brown was younger and more pliable and Andre had seenall of Prince's tricks and manipulations. He wasn't in awe.

Mr Cymone gets my vote. I'm quite proud of BrownMark's skills
and accomplishments...I had all of Andre's album's and I felt that he
had a big influence on who Prince was and had become. I saw BrownMark
more as a "hired gun" an exellent addition possible Andre's equal as a bassist!
Andre was an all-around talent and BrownMark was more follower of in Prince's
band (In an interview on BET he stated he was more influenced by Michael Jackson than Prince)!

My favorite of all the people Prince has ever worked with is Andre Cymone. I consider him damn near an equal to Prince.

This has been a topic on here a few times. Although I know Andre personally and have worked with him, I have to say Brownmark. Mark by far to me was one of the best musicians Prince has ever worked with.

So did he, which is why he had to be banished from the "Pharoah's" budding kingdom, w/ the quickness....

Haven't talked to Andre in almost a year. Last I heard, he was putting together a girl's group, ala Destiny's Child.

I hate to sound naive..... but could someone point me to some recordings or shows that really showcase Brownmark's skills?

I'm a huge fan of the Revolution...my favorite era. But is Mark on any actual recordings??

I saw the PR tour and Parade tour..... and the only time I really "heard" Mark's bass was on the extended When Doves Cry and Baby' I'm A Star jams.... where he's adding bass parts that weren't there ogrinially.

But what's a good example of something I could go re-listen to and pay attention to Mark's bass playing?

Brown Mark put together one of the best bands on Paisley Park label in the mid to late 1980s called Mazarati. That album is great from start to finish.

Brown Mark also put out a solo album called "Good Feeling" on Motown in the late 1980s. I love "Bang Bang" and "Shall We Dance". The album itself is decent.

Brown Mark also produced Lakeside in the late 1980s. "Relationship" was a JAM from that album.

Really? Hmmm. Care to explain why? I've heard that Prince stole a number of ideas from Andre, but wasn't sure if the accusations were all true (though frankly they didn't sound implausible).

Did Prince write both those songs, or have I been misinformed?

Yeah I got Mazerati.... had it since it came out.

But I'm lookign for someone to point me to a Revolution album or tour era that I could go to to hear his skills.

I remember in the ROlling Stone interview Prince said if BM couldn't play bass for him he'd eliminate it from his music..(we all know how that turned out) and I always was like "Well if it's so great why can't we ever really hear it?")

So can some BrownMark fan help guide me to the right thing so I can get "schooled"? THanks smile

I don't thinkPrince wrote any of BrownMark's songs. BrownMark is a Prince-type unto himself. Go here: http://www.crypticmusic.c...ntact.html and ask him. Maybe he'll answer.

Great link. I didn't know he had worked with Georgio, Stacy Lattisaw, and Chico DeBarge. I wondered why Chico's first album sounded so great. lol
