Prince or Alicia Keys? who do you think is the better piano player? It's better to have and not need, than to need and not have!

Cmon please. Alicia can't even play as good as Brian McNight or Tori Amos or Fiona Apple. She's not that good. Fallin' was two chords and I figured it out in 2 minutes. Em/Bm over and over. I wish her the best but she is way overhyped. ______________________________________________

How can you compare all these people? They just all paly piano. Alica is a very talented woman who will surprise many in the future. Saw her live in Amsterdam and she ruled.
You can invoke so many moods on the piano that is impossible to compare. They all do what they do real good. Or well. Or whatever. Hey; whatever!

wow, are you joking? Alicia is profficient, but her use of Beethoven reminds me of a high school talent show, only with more talent. It's that "look what I can do" kind of thing.....where Prince can't help but be awe inspiring, all with his own material.

Good Morning Everyone!!!! Alicia has a ways to go, but she does show promise. LIL MAN is a very respectable pianist. However, here's a short list of some of the most proficient pianists to ever work the earth.....
* Herbie Hancock * Bill Evans * Thelonious Monk * Horace Silver * Bud Powell * Keith Jarrett * Mccoy Tyner * Duke Ellington * Brother 9/15 aka CR3

well i remeber the jazz pianist marcus roberts in downbeat magazine a couple of years ago saying that prince couldn't play and that his songwriting was lame..... It's better to have and not need, than to need and not have!

are u kidding me? i have yet to see alicia play piano. oh yeah she did fiddle with keys in a video didnt she? i saw her in concert. she had one of those electronic programmable keyboard thingajiggys. until i see her really play a piano, one without an ac cord attached, she's not a piano player she's someone who plays at the piano. it is the symbol of total transformation. Butterfly represents a need for change and greater freedom, and at the same time it represents courage: one requires courage to carry out the changes

Puhleez! When she puts out an album that can even be in the same league as Parade then, I'll be impressed.

That's true, I recently bought the CD and I'm not that 'impressed' so far, but 'Fallin' and 'Woman's worth' are pretty nice hits, reason why I bought the album. [This message was edited Fri Mar 29 10:02:33 PST 2002 by purpleleaf7]

No Contest.
Just listen to P's playing in UTCM. More great piano playing can be found on "Crucify" By Tori Amos. And Bill Evans is great. Alicia is lovely and talented but I'm sure she needs to develop more musically. Check out "First Take" by Roberta Flack or anything by Patrice Rushen

When I first heard about Alicia, I was like, "cool a new school artist who can play! 'Bout damn time!" then I heard her album and was disappointed. It was a good first effort carried by one or two solid performances and a Prince remake, but baby girl is mucho overated, but.....
To be fair, I think she's got real promise if she can survive the minefeild that is the Music industry. Comparing her to Prince is like comparing Kobe to MJ. It's not really fair. She's had some success, but really hasn't done anything yet. Let's have this discussion in about five or six years and see what how she stacks up. "We can play 4 days! If it get dry, gimme that mayonaise!"
