People never believe me when I tell them that Prince is a black guy (in the sense that his mom wasnt 100% white). That half Italian thing was just some publicity BS cooked up (and the actress who played the Kids mom in Purple Rain), like shaving 2 yrs off his age. Ofcourse he do look the part and it really doesn't matter.

He actually looks a lot like his father to me. Just a lighter complexion.

THANK YOU. This is one of the BIGGEST misconceptions about Prince. He's a Black (African-American) man. But what does it say about the folks behind the film (Purple Rain) and the pop culture audience that they had to market him like that???

Thanks,
Five

Funny that you say this. I took a friend of mine to see Prince in Houston, and she mentioned that she noticed that he seemed more into his "blackness," lately (she said she even noticed it before the concert), and she is just a very, very casual fan. She seemed to be quite pleased about it. I have actually talked to a good amount of people who have noticed this as well-all African-Americans. Whether its right or wrong, I think he's winning some AA fans back partly because of this. Anyone else notice this?

Forgive my ignorance, but what is Prince's exact racial/ethnic breakdown? His dad looks 100% black to me, but his mom doesn't

Prince has completely embraced his black roots again and I am absolutely thrilled about his new direction and approach as are all lot of his old fans. I have quite a few friends say he has finally come back to us....

yes I have noticed... not only in the way he is wearing his hair and clothes (straight out of the 70's pimp daddy) but also his music. Or I should say the music he is promoting.
If I was the man sounds rock and Marrying kind also very rock. I have a feeling we won't see singles of either one of these. ( I really like both of them)
I would have to say Dear Mr. Man would be the next single preferably before the November elections. wink

That's correct. I read an article about him in the late 70's where he was quoted as stating that he was half-Black, half-Italian, which I doubted, then KNEW was not true, once I saw his parents, circa P.R.-era....
