Vanity, whose real name is Denise Matthews has changed her lifestyle these days and has embarked on a more spiritual path as a born again Christian. This page however, is a tribute to her days as the foxy vixen born out of a Prince fantasty.

Vanity was discovered by Prince in the early 80s and was cast as the lead singer of the group Vanity 6 that Prince produced. The two also had a brief love affair that ended with Vanity quitting the trio and going solo, and turning down the role as Prince's lover in the hit movie "Purple Rain."


Vanity wasn't much of a commercial success as a singer. Many,however, will remember the steamy song "Nasty Girls" that she lead as a member of Vanity 6. It was perhaps the biggest hit she had. As a solo artist, she released the song "Under the Influence" in 1986, which was a moderate R&B hit. The video was superbly produced, and showcased the more elegant and glamarous side of Vanity. Yet, this was the last album she recorded, and instead actively pursued film and television roles.

She landed the role of leading lady in some major hollywood blockbusters, such as "Never Too Young To Die" with John Stamos (ABC's "Full House") and with Carl Weathers in "Action Jackson." Yet her most memorable big screen role was in "The Last Dragon", a filmed produced by Barry Gordy.

Vanity has also starred in TV roles, appearing on the series "Tales From the Cript" and "Highlander" (the series). It's not clear what her future career plans are, but she seems to be quite happy with the new course of life she has taken on.


After converting to Christianity, Vanity revealed to the media that she was fed up with the lifestyle she was living at the time. She admitted to having been involved in heavy drug usage, which affected not only her health, but jeopardized her career. Unfortunately, she had to be hospitalized with a serious liver infection, caused from years of drug abuse. Vanity is now on a crusade to not only change her image, but to also preach against the evils of modern day society, and to help win people over to God.

These days Denise Matthews condemns her past ways, and everyone agrees that she did not exactly live the most healthy or wholesome lifestyle. Yet, I must say, barring some of the evils of Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll, "Vanity" was quite a natural and talented beauty. Denise, May success and happiness be on your side in the years to come.

It was all business Vanity was dating Prince in her mind. She was a fan that would show up with Rick James when Prince toured with him in 1979.
