Hi folks, just wanted to let you know it's very possible we'll have downtime on Sunday, perhaps as much as 18 hours worth, while we migrate data to our new database server. And if not this Sunday, then some Sunday soon...!

The good news is, we got the new database server installed, networked to the webserver, and all seems well. I've done some light testing and the site doesn't horribly break Hopefully the result will be a faster, more reliable site... keep your fingers crossed!

For me, this is good news and bad news. Sure I will miss not being able to come to the org to hang out and see what's up, but it will be nice to get a faster server, since the chatroom is sooooo slooooow. Good luck Ben.

Hey BEN could you give us some juicy Tech. details about the "new server". At least i could use the off time to ponder the implications ensuing from a solo server running the show. Will things like SEARCH be enabled ? Ye olde "who is where" user listing; you know, How much RAM we are to enjoy; is the server something you picked up at a garage sale, and all that yummy stuff us tech. NERDS love to noodle over. In other words.., i hope you know what the your doing!
Seriously; this is gonna be a great experience for us all to see the place running faster, cleaner, and more user friendly Thanks in advance 4 taking the time from your hectic schedule to upgrade...fingers and toes crossed,... sounds like a good oppurtunity to sit around the campfire, burn some marshmellows, and tell spooky stories to the kids

Search will NOT be reinstated immediately, but I do hope it will follow soon after the new server is up.
The new machine is similar to the main org machine--a HP server with a P4 running at 2GHz, with 1.5G RAM and 80G of disk. The new database machine is connected to the webserver via a private network, and should (!!) increase the capacity of the site significantly, after it's tweaked. I'm also going to investigate some code changes I've been meaning to work on, which could potentially give another performance boost to the forums, but we'll see how things go.

will some of the bugs be fixed too, ben?
