Am i the only one who saw this?

I remember watching an episode of Entertainment Tonight back in the 80's after Vanessa Williams was dethroned as Miss America. They said she was pursuing a musical career and Prince was going to be involved in the project. Next thing i know, she releases her first album and it was produced by Chucki Booker and had no Prince penned song on it or mention in the credits. Does anyone else remember seeing this at least heard about this?

Sorry . Wrong emoticon.

I meant shake No I had never heard such a story...

...but I do understand how the rumour might be started. Apparently by the middle 80's he would produce any good looking girl with a racial background.

Maybe Vanessa didn't accept the "extra clause" included in the contract giggle

I'm actually an old fan(32 yrs old to be exact) who is still caught up in the old Prince of the 80's. Sometimes when i'm bored(like today), i think of questions that i always had but could never get answered and post them on the org.

You are correct- It was going to be call the Cinderella Theory With George Clinton and Prince working on it. For whatever reason - it didnt occur and Clinton released a CD with that same title.

I wish I had more info for you

I never saw the ET episode this was mentioned on, but I remember hearing about it. I was a big Prince fan & in love with Vanessa Williams, and I couldn't wait for their collaboration, but nothing ever came of it.

Doesn't everyone have a "racial background" of some sort?

Per Nilson talks about this in The Vault.

He says something about a meeting or proposed meeting with George Clinton who was supposed to producing Vanessa's first album and something like Prince was going to offer a song or something ... but for whatever reason the album and Prince's song never came to be.

i'm too lazy to go look for it now sorry.

Another piece of trivia here: "Girlfriend", the first single by Pebbles, was originally intended for Vanessa Williams' first album -- she even recorded a version of it that was never released. Once Pebbles and L.A. began engaging in 'extracurricular activity', the song changed hands...

If my memory serves me correctly, I remember her doing some vocals on that album.
