Wendy and Lisa appreciation thread

Haven't seen one of these...for a while at least.

Not exactly proteges, but probably the best "offshoot" that came out of his camp.

I had on the 1st album on repeat at work and I had to pause as to how much I miss them and how much I love their music seperate from Prince. I am ok with a revoulion reunion...but I would love Prince to have these gals on an album again.

I think my favorite of theirs is the First one..although practically all of the songs are about the breakup...which to me is a bit...well not amazing...but to have a reocurring theme like that throughout the album and have all the songs take on their own specialness is sort of an achievement. They did a good turn on the entire album; musically and lyrically.

It took me many years to actually like them. I mean I'd listen for listening sake, but really get into it...nor get it. One stand out "The Life" is probably one of my very favorite songs of all time. Every word. I remember shortly after moving here to San Fran. It was SO overwhelming. New place...new job...new friends...losing old friends etc. I heard this and just cried. I musta played that song like 20 times or something. It was more of a releasing cry. Just thinking about all I had come thru, all I was trying to do...the stress etc. The song has incredible impact. I still play it every now and again to remind myself...to ground myself to what I am doing, and where I am going. It gives me gravity.

I try and get into almost everything they do. Seal...Neil Finn etc. Their harmonization and the touches they give to these other artists songs is always quality. Usually they are on the standouts of most albums they help make. They have a sound, you know.

Anyway...they are one of the last few I have yet to see live. Oneday...

I'm sorry, but i can't get into Wendy and Lisa's music although i think they are fantastic musicians. I had one of their albums "Fruit at the Bottom". It did not excite me like i hoped it would. It sounded cheesy and not what i expected from two people who used to be with P.

I appreciated of them doing fantasic job of doing movie and tv music scoring. I also listened to their albums because a friend of mines let me listened to them. I tried to be objective when it comes to listening to music that I don't normally listen to. The only songs like from them were Waterfall and Lolly Lolly and This is your life, but I wasn't feeling the rest of their songs on their albums. Still I appreciated them representing us women of doing incredible job as music composers since sadly that field still dominanted by men.

Heehee.
My fave are Eroica and GirlBros
Their albums are such a natural flow.
But with GirlBros they recorded an album that is not contemporary. I am gonna play it RIGHT NOW.

Though I like the 1st best...Eroica was way ahead of it's time. Not a masterpiece...but they were heading in that direction.

Wendy and Lisa and girl bros. are my favorites.

Seems like after all these years they're STILL underrated in the influence/collaboration in Prince's work and how gifted they are.

They're work on Crossing Jordan is wonderful too. I wish they'd put out a score instead of just having the theme and that's it on the Crossing Jordan soundtrack.

The work with Neil Finn is a favorite of mine too, superspaceboy. I hope people don't miss out on the stuff they've done outside of Prince. Great work.

Amy and David Sedaris rock too. biggrin

Eroica and GirlBros are my faves. I think they really came into their own when they got themselves fully removed from P and his 'sound'.

(Having said that, the first album is great for precisely the P sound! - go figure!)

One day I will get my hands on Friendly Fire and one day I will see them live. I've seen everyone that I would want to see live apart from these 2 - hence the 'petition' thread elsewhere in this forum.

That line is fucking killer.

My desk has a 2 pictures of my niece, one of my nephew, and one of me with WENDY and LISA. They're the fucking end all be all of Prince experience, in my book!!!!! (That's a little bit of my afternoon coffee talking, but not too much!!!!)

...I don't get it, why do people change? I swear I will never be that way... Dreams that die should be a big surprise, life is my favorite nursery rhyme -- I'M NOT AFRAID OF THE BIG BAD WOLF!
