he ought to bring them and make them opening act for his show. though that would probably cost more.

it was out of control !!!!!
at first i thought it was one of the crappy nyc prince cover bands u see around town....then i heard the synth line from COOL and it sounded a bit too much like the real deal "vintage oberheim synths"
so as i was looking 4 my seat i had to at least glance over towards the stage...i saw JEROME BENTON i was like what the@#&*
then morris !!!!! i flipped out !!! and they rocked it !!!! jungle love...the bird....get it up...gigalos get lonely too.....ect.....next was prince...he rocked the house obviously.....but in the middle of his set i heard the horns play a part of "the glamorous life" i thought kool a little reference to the CRAZY amount of jams he rocked in the 80's BUT THEN i heard timbale's and
GHAT DAYUM !!!!!
LOOKING FINE AS HELL WAS SHELIA E singing the jam....she only did that number and she got a CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY ovation like 5 min..she was so moved i almost had tears in my eyes.....prince continued doing his thing ..."being the supafunk genius" and it was a great night.....i saw all three nyc shows...and HE .....well u know..... aah ladies and gentlemen. i live in new york city and caught the show at the garden last nite and let me tell u he indeed brought the hooouuuuussssse down. Morris Day and time the opened and hit us off with vintage old school, jungle love, gigalos get lonely too, cool the whole nine. and to top it off oh yeah the lady herself graced us with her presence.
Miss Sheila E. lit it up with Glamourous Life. We NYkers(and i'm sure non NYkers) screamed her name and her song we sang she was fabulous. and what can u say about Prince off the chain, the hook, the brotha was bad vintage jams like Let's Work, DMSR,adore, and i feel 4 u(which many people think belong to Chaka Khan) ANYWAY he was incredible. Absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!!!. If u can- go see the man- and his electrifying band, 'cause they got funky down. Just NASTY.

This is what happened:

I came a little late expecting Prince to go on a little after 8pm like the two nights before, but as I got closer to the stage I heard Cool playing, but it was live, not the album track on the mix tape that was played the last two nights. My friend and I tried to get to our seats quickly and caught the end of their next song, 777-9311. If Cool was indeed their first song then this is The Time's short setlist:

Cool
777-9311
Gigolos Get Lonely Too
The Bird

encore
Jungle Love

I have already seen The Time multiple times (the latest being last year at BB King's) otherwise, I would have been mightily annoyed that I didn't see their whole set. Prince went onstage at around 8:45 and the setlist was closer to Monday's, but in the middle of Controversy, Sheila appears on stage out of nowhere and performed "The Glamorous Life". Like someone else stated, she only did the one song and got a huge ovavtion before Prince joined her for the final notes of Controversy and then they both left the stage while Renato did his solo.

It was a fantastic show, but the one downside is that The Time and Sheila E appearances made Prince's set shorter so some of his songs were dropped from the setlist.

I had front row seats on the floor again last night (thanks NPGMC!) and noticed that Prince has the lyrics of each song printed and laid out on the stage in front of him. A stage hand turns the pages from underneath the stage to the song that Prince will perform next.

Prince wore his platform sneakers and a black "I love NY" T-shirt for the acoustic and closing set. He wore heels for the encore.

Words..... cannot..... describe.....

Last night's show at the Garden was unbelievable!!!

As I've said on here before, I was a "fam" or fanatic or whatever, up til the symbol album. Seen Purple Rain tour twice, Parade tour, Lovesexy tour twice. Then stopped paying attention after I bought "Come." Until this year when I saw the Grammy's.

Well....

Last night was the BEST Prince concert EVER!!!
I'm sure everyone else can describe it better than I, but man was it awesome. The acoustic set made it seem like the acoustic guitar was a whole new instrument you've never heard before!

And how lucky were we??? I couldn't get tix to Mon or Tues, so settled for Friday's show at the Meadowlands, NJ. WHen they added the 3rd night I broke down and got a 2nd night.

And .....not only the Time..... but SHEILA!!! When I saw her rise (I think) from the floor with timbales, I knew it was going to go off. But the best was the crowd's reaction. The entire sold out Madison Square Garden WENT WILD!!!! It was a standing ovation for several minutes! And on the big screen you could see how touched and maybe surprised she was. People told me they have never seen the crowd react like that before, not even for Springsteen! I was so happy at that moment.... for being lucky to be at this night, for sharing in the joy, for everyone showing so much love for someone who deserves it so much.

The whole night was truly a blessing.

Thank you Prince, NPG, The Time, Sheila and everyone at MSG last night.

Guess I should be glad I'm in NY then. But boy, if only every artist gave a "go through the motions show" like Prince.

OK now a couple questions/comments.

1. Someone should change the title of the post cuz The Time "opened"; Sheila was a guest DURING the show.

2. How exaclty did the Time set open? I was still going up the escalators when I heard the music which sounded like "777 9311", but then it stopped. and maybe then "Jerk Out". By the time I found our seats, they were finishing "Get It Up". But later they did the full version of 777-9311... so how did the show actually open?

2B. Do The Time ever play "Chocolate" live? I love that song!

3. In between The Time and Prince, they were playing music (on a terrible sound system!). One of the songs was "Cool", but I could swear it was Prince's vocals, not Morris's. Did anyone else notice that? I thought it was interesting that they'd play one of these unreleased tracks.

4. During one of Renato's piano solos, (I think it was "Sometimes It Snows"), he was clearly playing on just one keyboard, but it sounded like synth-strings layered over his piano. I didn't see anyone else onstage, and I know you can layer and/or split sounds on a keyboard, but his hands' movement looked like it matched the piano part, not the string-chords being held..... so wonder how they did that.

5. Is Purple Rain always the last encore..... or is there ever another song afterwards? (I remember in 1985 PR Tour after Purple Rain the lights were on and they did a surprise encore previewing "America". It was great!).

I FEEL CHICAGO HAS THE BIGGEST FAN RATIO. PRINCE ROCKED THE FIRST NIGHT IN CHICAGO. I RATHER GET A FULL PRINCE CONCERT THAN HAVING TO SHARE HIS CONCERT WITH SHEILA E OR THE TIME. dON'T GET ME WRONG, I LIKE BOTH PERFORMERS BUT, IF HAVING SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCES WILL LIMIT PRINCE'S STAGE TIME. I RATHER SEE NO ONE BUT PRINCE. PRINCE TORE THE HOUSE DOWN JUNE 25,2004 IN CHICAGO AND I BELEIVE THE OTHER CHICAGO SHOWS WILL BE OFF THE HOOK. I DO DISAGRE WITH YOU. THAT IS WHY PRINCE HAS A TOTAL OF FIVE SHOWS FOR CHICAGO BECAUSE HE HAS MANY FANS IN THIS CITY.

The show rocked! But it was too loud. I did see Puff Daddy and Lenny Kravitz in the audience. And then Chris Rock at the after party. Does anyone know if Prince performed there? The video they played of the concert was nice too!

...that was powerful, I think Sheila E. could have almost fallen with all the cheers, the LOVE was shown, even I felt overwhelmed...she tore the place up!!! Prince was wonderful (as always) my favorite part was when he did 'When doves Cry' (mix) and was watching Larry Graham(?) do 'the step'...he created a whole scene on stage as if he just noticed him in the dark playing, but the guitar the whole night was GORGEOUS! I really liked Prince rapping about WB, I want to hear that whole song again, cause he made sure we HEARD him!!! I just hope I didn't miss the ending including 'Purple Rain' cause I was thinking about that the whole day, but overall, I was very proud to be there...I wish I was there there right now, again, today!!!
