dez dickerson and the modernaires Well I'm sure this has been asked before but the search on here is not working so...
Does anyone know if the Dez song from Purple Rain was released and if so what are the odds of finding it? (this would make a great bonus cut on an extended Purple Rain cd by the way) [This message was edited Tue Jul 6 11:15:17 2004 by thepurpleaxxe] when the melting pot stirs how we gonna take it?

That's a great song. I have a copy of Dez's ep that was released in Japan in 85. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I never knew anything was released back then. He was on tour with Billy Idol around that time and for some reason I couldn't go to that show. "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"

In a 1986 Rock and Soul magazine interview,Dez commented on the song "Modernaire".According to him,Warners were planning to release this song on two separate occasions. The first release date was in the summer of 1984,which would have made sense. But for some reason,it was never released. Then a year later in the summer of 1985,they once again planned to release it,but it never came out.

I have heard Dez say in a couple of interviews that he doesnt know who has the master to that song. They would release it again but no one knows where it is.
I have a tune called The Beat that might be from that EP. I have never seen or heard of an EP being released. I think the real buried treasure would be some albums from Dez's pre-Prince days. He made some records with his early bands - there are some pictures of them in his book. But anyone with any legit Dez Dickerson material should share for the prosperity of black rock guitarists everywhere!

I have a download from Napster a few years ago that is about a little over 2 minutes. Apparently what someone did is plug either a VCR or DVD into a cassette player and loop what is in the movie "Purple Rain" over and over. The vocals never get past what was played in the movie. Yeah, Prince's punkass talked to Mo Ostin at Warner's trying 2 keep Dez's single and album from being released. His managers and P didn't want any compettion from Dez during his crucial Purple Rain surge. Dez's album was slated 4 summer release in 84 right along with The Time's "Ice Cream Castle" and "Sex Shooter" and "The Glamourous Life". SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. So,there is an entire Dez Dickerson and The Modernaires album?? Did Prince produce all of it? Do you have a tracklist or any other details?
