Which side project album Prince should have kept 4 himself?

I have 2 P should have kept.

The Time 1st album. If P would have released this in between Dirty Mind and Controversy... Overall, I think this album is better than Controversy.

The Family. One of P's best side project albums. I would have loved 2 see P released this under his name. This instead of Around the World .

I agree but "Dirty Mind" is such a short album, I wish he could have combined it with The Time's first album. "The Stick" followed by "Head" in a continuous sequence would have been the bomb!

The project I think he should have kept for himself was the Apollonia 6 album. This albums has some of the best synthesizer jams from that period. I love "Happy Birthday, Mr. Christian" towards the end with the gun shots.

Jill Jones.

Songs like Mia Bocca should have been on Parade.

Dale Bozzio. She should've remained as an FZ side project.

As usual Vain, I agree with u. Apollonia 6 album is jamming. As far as the Dirty Mind album, I dig it like it is, short and hard. That's his punk album. I lean towards P putting Let's Work, and the song Controversy on with the material from the first Time's record. And oh yeah, Private Joy in place of After Hi School. P's playing on The Time's first record is superb. That and his playing on 1999 album is his best ever to me.

It's hard for me to determine which side projects Prince should have kept for himslef, but I definitely think he should have kept these songs for himself...

The Screams Of Passion ---imagine if Prince had recorded this song as a duet with Sheila E.,released it as his new single in the summer of 1985,and watch it become one of his biggest hits ever.

The Dance Electric ---this would have been a perfect title track for a Prince album.

Open Book ---I think Prince gave this song to Jeveeta Steele, but he really should have kept it for himself. It's one of the best songs he has ever written.

G-Spot ---Prince gave this song to Jill Jones and it appeared it on her 1987 debut album. But I prefer Prince's own version, recorded in 1983.

I agree with "The Screams of Passion". He should have kept that. I've already ran a thread on "The Dance Electric" and the rumours about this being the titled album that was "supposed" to have been released between the 1999 album and Purple Rain. Yes, he should have kept "The Dance Electric". His version of G-Spot is far superior.

Are you talking about releasing it in 1983 or delaying "Purple Rain" for another year. He didn't release an album in 1983 and he had always released an album every year. When I didn't hear from him, I thought he had gone away. I found out later he was filming "Purple Rain".

An album called "The Dance Electric" would have been a perfect choice to follow up "1999". I've heard Prince's version as well as Andre's and both of them are slammin'. I bet "God" would have been included on that album....at the end it says "Wake up children, dance the dance electric". Do you know any of the tracks that would have been on it? I'm wondering if some of the tracks would have been "Heaven", "Xtra Loveable", "Turn It Up", and "U Call Me". This would have been one bad ass album!

The song "Heaven" was recorded in 1985,so it could not have been considered for a 1983 project. But I agree with you, there were enough spectacular songs from this period for an amazing album in 1983...

"Extra Lovable"
"Possessed"
"U Call Me"
"Turn It Up"
"Extra Lovable"
"Electric Intercourse"
"G-Spot"
"Do Yourself A Favor"
"Feel U Up"
"Irresistible Bitch" (original version with the old man voice)

Every one of'em, of course ! He now does (no more "madhouse" 4 Xpectation or NEWS).

Still, it would have been a bit weird 2 hear him sing "I'm a nasty girl"... cool

The Screams of Passion for sure. I always thought "Waiting at the Altar" would have been another cool, gender-defying/male-vulnerability thing if he had kept it to himself too.
