Prince wants Keisha for video role

The next big role for Whale Rider star Keisha Castle-Hughes, nominated for a best actress Oscar this year, may be in a video-clip with megastar Prince.

Her agent Graham Dunster, of Auckland, confirmed he was called by Prince's representatives this week.

There were talks about the possibility of Keisha, 14, appearing in a video that American rock star Prince was making.

The opportunity had "struck a chord" with Keisha.

"If Prince popped in out of the blue and said, 'Hey, I'm doing a new video, I would like you to be in it – possibly be in it', most people are going to go `Okay, let's find out what this really entails'," Mr Dunster said.

But it was far too early to talk about specific details yet.

"There isn't an offer on the table, but there is dialogue about the possibility, which might sound like an artificial difference but actually it's quite important."

Sony Music promotions manager Kim Boshier said it would be fantastic if Keisha could be involved in Prince's next video clip but she had not yet heard anything about it.

His latest album, Musicology, is already a critical and commercial success.

Keisha could not be reached for comment yesterday because she was travelling to Italy for the Giffoni Film Festival, an event judged by more than 1300 children aged 6 to 19 worldwide.

Mr Dunster said she was receiving offers "non-stop" and there had been several approaches for her to star in feature films.

"People approach Keisha, she doesn't need to approach other people to get opportunities."

However, Mr Dunster said it was important for Keisha to continue "growing up and educating herself and being normal", rather than "chasing the end of the rainbow".
"How embarrasing to be human!"
