I tried to post a picture in a thread, but it didn't take...I did everything right, pasted the jpg, highlighted it, clicked the img button, and nothing happened...is there a problem?

You can't post a photo from an image on your computer. You have to upload it to webspace first, then post the URL in between the [img] [/img] brackets in order for it to work.

e.g. this photo of a panda is here:

http://spacefags.com/spac.../panda.gif

To post it, just put the [img] brackets around it and voila:
