It's funny how moderators have no problem locking and deleting completely harmless threads

and now will not delete a thread linking to the most disturbing video clip imaginable.

It doesn't make good sense at all.

There's a large and ridiculously obvious difference between your two examples. Don't mix apples and oranges.

Well by all means, please do educate us and expand on this "large and ridiculously obvious

difference", because despite my academic background I fail to see this at all.

there is indeed a difference between sharing information and deleting internet posts that provoke for the sake of provocation. as educated as you claim to be, i find it funny that it takes a lowly little ol' moderator to break it down for you. but i'm happy to give it my best shot.

so ok, sport -

on the one hand, we have someone posting the source information on a topic that has shocked and horrified the world. it's being talked about on the news. on CNN. people are discussing it in schools, at the workplace. it exists. it happened. and someone posted this source information in a politics and religion forum on this site, and we made sure to include a hefty disclaimer as to the disturbing nature of the link.

you're putting that in the same boat as someone acting out on the org and engaging in some kind of shenanigans that, for whatever reason, causes a thread to be locked or a post to be deleted. FIRST OFF, this is a privately owned site. freedom of speech on here extends only as far as the sensibility of this site's owner, and on a more secondary level, those who he trusts to moderate the site. if you didn't already have a full appreciation of this fact, now you do.

one of the goals of moderating a site like this is to maintain a safe space for its users, where folks can debate and interact and dialog with a minimum of unnecessary hostility toward one another. when a person has their post or thread moderated, believe me, i KNOW - the first thing that goes through that person's mind is "i've been WRONGED!!! i've been SILENCED!!! i've been CENSORED!!!" but you know what? in moderating that posting, we've made a decision based on what we think is in the best interests of the site, and while YES, we do make mistakes in that regard from time to time, the point is not to hide the truth from anyone, but instead to maintain a decent forum for open conversation among fans of prince, on any given number of topics.

if anything, i feel that by posting that link in the manner we did, we in fact PROTECTED the org community by in effect saying, "hey - look out, this video is out there on the internet. you may not have seen it or heard about it yet, but you're going to be hearing a lot about it. it's not something you're gonna want to see without proper warning. it's probably not something you're going to want to see at all. but if you do find yourself viewing it, please feel free to use this space to discuss it."

i don't think that's an inappropriate action to take.

Just take down the link. I haven't seen it and don't want to I think the actions of those people were horrendous. If people are leaving a site that's supposed to be about an artist we all admire because of one count em one thread or link it's got out of hand. How will this site be fundamentally different without that link?

interesting observations.....

1) this isnt really a vote.....the moderators have debated the issue and made a decision...

2) in the past a thread like this would have been deleted and people wouldnt even have a chance to voice their concern....(i hope that isnt lost on people)...

3) why are more people responding to this thread about voting off a thread then actually engaging in discussions about terrorism and war?

i really do appreciate people's opinions on this issue...i really do...but i just dont see the issue as some others have....

i respect all of your views on this subject.....is it too much to ask for the same in return?

This site is about Prince... the forum is completely politics and religion. There's your difference.

The decision to leave the link up remains.
The choice to view or not to view also remains.
Those who feel the need to leave as a result have also made that choice...

I've seen nothing posted to make me change my mind regarding this issue.

First you are right, what the fuck is MURDER doing in a politics and religion forum. Surley it should be in a Murder forum or at least a War forum.

Second....

And if it was someone close to u ????

Would that change your mind ???

Leave it be. Everyone still has the choice to watch it or not. I think people should know the reality of what these sub-humans do.

'Sub-Humans'

Wow thats rich, in that case the whole of the fucking human race are 'sub-human'.

Like the British never invaded most of the world, like the US never invaded 'Nam (to help out, of course rolleyes ), like russia never invaded afganistan, like germany never invaded most of europe, like oh my god. I think u get the message.

Conclusion - We are all 'sub-human' by using your definition.

Think about it.....

Because the murder was a result of stupid political decisions made by a retarted president.

If it was someone close to me, no, I probably initially would not have viewed it, and initially would most likely not want the link there. Overall, given my political train of thought, I would eventually want the world to have seen what they did to my son or daughter, or friend... and that's my honest answer.
