anyone notice that npgmc is higher than the org on google now?

i normally get onto the site from google, i.e. just type in Prince and the org is usually 1st on the list, but now, it's npgmc omfg

with the org in second lol

how does this google listing thing work?! i thought it was something to do with the number of external links to a site? hmmm

i though the oprg had more external links to it's site that npg(JW)mc

No, I didn't notice, but it sure deserves to be. I am stinking mad that this site's owner -- due to very good circumstances, mind you -- cannot update his news section at a time like this. It's practically the second coming of Prince with the HoF induction, and there are interesting articles all over the place -- the most press Prince has received in ages -- but you'd hardly know it by visiting Prince's most famous fansite.

There are lots of factors that determine web site positions in search engine. Among them are popularity, content, relevance, and external links. I think the recent presales drove NPGMC to number one. However, there are companies that you can pay to boost your position...so the NPGMC could have exercised this option as well.

Nope. There's a bunch of articles that would make the news section normally and that are not making it right now... Is it because it's sometimes in the Prince section? That shouldn't be a reason... the news section is there to archive Prince news. Besides, the problem is acknowledged By the mods and I'm sure Ben knows ithere's definitely a need for improvement.

no no..i think you misunderstood my coments....if there are any items/threads that you feel should be included in the news section use the "recommend" button at the bottom of the thread....then a moderator can link it up to the news section....

i dont think people are recommending stuff using the new system.....cause i know danza is great at linking them...or are people emailing the news recommendations still? cause if they are, well...yes ben is in the middle of his move and hasnt had a chance to do updates...

You can't pay for the regular search results in Google, only the sponsored listings. Ranking in Google's general results has alot to do with the site's popularity and relevance.

Aero, I can understand. Unfortunately it was mostly unavoidable, as I didn't have a place to live, let alone an internet connection, for a couple of weeks. It sucks, I agree, but I'm back on the game, so it will get at least daily attention for the conceivable future.
