The 'We Don't Need No Stinkin' Advertising' PayPal Fund type thing...

Well, NPGMC club my 25 bucks last year, and I got far less from them than I do here. As mentioned in other threads, who thinks that the org should set up a donation fund?

Lets see how much this thread alone can raise. No amount too small (or too large!). Spread the word, people!

Heres my pledge...

I swear on Billy's Sunglasses that I, gambool, wish donate $25 to the Org Fund.

I swear by this song and by all that I have done wrong, that I, AsylumUtopia, will gladly donate $25, €25, or even £25 to the Org fund.

www.paypal.com
It's a sort of like a bank account which you put funds into (presumably by credit card) and you then use the money in your paypal account for internet transactions (I think this is how it works, anyone who knows better please correct me if I'm wrong).

Straightforward for people in the US, but a bit more difficult for we Europeans. Before Christmas I was trying to buy something from a site that only takes paypal payments so I started to set up an account. Registered fine and everything but then it told me I needed a paypal plus (or something) account because I'm not in the US. The details are a little hazy to me now but I think it said that I needed to enter my credit card details, wait for my next credit card statement, on which would appear a paypal transaction with a code, after I enter that code my paypal plus account would be activated and I could put funds into it. I didn't bother to do this though, as the purchase I wanted to make was for a Christmas present and my next CC bill wasn't due until well afterwards.
HTH.

FYI, I suggested (or somebody else did and I agreed, not sure) the paypal idea not long after paypal came about, and whichever mod I discussed it with said that they didn't want org members feeling like they are paying for a service. It might lead them to question the "the org is not a democracy and the mods are the supreme leaders of the universe" official philosophy. And while I would be delighted to throw some pennies in Ben's general direction to help keep this joint running, I'm inclined to agree and to prefer advertising.

I don't see it as 'paying' for a service. Some people put a lot of their time into keeping this site what it is. I don't have the time to donate, so I'd really like to contribute in another way.

In another thread (http://www.prince.org/msg/3/79394) Ben wrote:

I really appreciate the willingness to donate to the org cause! :sniff: I've thought long and hard about this, and my decision for now is definitely that ads will be on-site. However, I am not at all adverse to a "deal", such as if you donate via PayPal, you no longer see ads (and get a note next to your name? Something like that.)

Its kinda like going to a museum. Its free, but If I enjoyed it, I'll leave a donation on the way out.

C'mon people, lets show some support! The fund stands at $75...

True, those ads aren't too intrusive, but I'd still be happier to financially support the Org as a member. After all, it is my internet home.
