Please consider adding back "marketplace" or somewhere to post Prince CDs and other Prince-related items for sale. At a minimum, it would be another opportunity to tell fams about Prince stuff on eBay!

d.m.s.r. is just fine, we just didn't really need an entire forum dedicated to it. the site alone's enough!*

why not start up the merchandising section and use the profits from that to fund the site!!?

A couple reasons. First, the merchandise is in storage in Michigan, and I'm in Spain. And soon I'll be in California (which you might notice, is also not Michigan smile). Second, running that doesn't generate much revenue, and takes a lot of effort. I will reopen the shop section at some point, probably in the summer, and have some new items as well. But ads are definitely a low-risk, low-effort thing. I might hate them and get rid of them, but I'm definitely going to give it a fair shot.

What about www.cafepress.com? I'm guessing you already have merchandise to sell, but this company makes stuff on demand and you can manage it all online.

New Funk Order has a site: www.cafepress.com/newfunkorder

Co-sign, but i know it's not really possible to make it a paysite. How much do you need for a year. We could start funding. (is that English? Funding?)

Great stuff Ben! Being an Internet/IT guy myself I know just how much work this is (not that I've ever made anything so grand though!), and I'm always impressed with this site.

It's good to see you're supporting Mozilla too.

Thanks for the positive response everyone. I'd like to quickly address a few issues/questions.

Why not use CafePress for merchandising?
Well for some things, I might someday. They certainly are the easiest way to do merch. However, I've done so much research and work on promotional materials before, I feel that I know how to get really high-quality stuff made, for less money... I think the CP stuff is OK, and they do have a wide variety of items, but I want very high quality, I want to approve the final products, etc. Anyone who has a .org t-shirt knows they are american-made, high-quality thick cotton, with heavy printing. I shipped them for essentially, my cost, priority mail (anywhere in the world). I think this ends up being a much better value, less expensive for buyers, and higher-quality. BUT there are some things I will probably never make, like frisbees, maybe I'd use Cafe Press for. But my main inclination is to 'do it myself'.

Bring back the marketplace forum
I would like to, and have special plans for eBay listings, post-3.0 (I don't think I'll get it all debugged before 3.0 is done). The main thing is, we need a knowledgable moderator for that specific arena. A collector themself who can check out every new thread...

Downtime for the transition to 3.0
There won't be much downtime. I expect less than 2 hours. I have to do a lot of database changes, but deploying the new code takes only a few keystrokes. Of course, there might be some 'rough edges' immediately following--but that won't be a big problem.

Let's have a 'tech' forum
I'm just not sure there's enough interest in such a forum, here. There are tons of sites where you can discuss nothing but tech, etc. If enough people really want this, I'll definitely consider it, and maybe try it as an experiment, but I'm worried about creating mostly "dead" forums that still need moderation.

I'd rather give via PayPal, than see ads
I really appreciate the willingness to donate to the org cause! :sniff: I've thought long and hard about this, and my decision for now is definitely that ads will be on-site. However, I am not at all adverse to a "deal", such as if you donate via PayPal, you no longer see ads (and get a note next to your name? Something like that.) Oh, and moderators won't see ads, no matter what. That's the least I can do for them!

I hope that clears up some of my decisions/thinking. I'll continue to monitor the thread for other issues I feel should be addressed.
